Mission Statement
Climate Changes, Adaptation & Mitigation, Ozone Layer Protection, Toxic Chemicals & Bio diversity welfare TERRE’s mission is to provide credible information, straight answers and innovative solutions in the effort to address global environmental issues like Climate Change, Ozone Layer Protection, Toxic Chemicals and Biodiversity. Working on an issue that is often polarized and politicized, the Centre provides a forum for objective research and analysis with the aim of developing pragmatic policies and solutions. TERRE is a leading voice for sensible action to address the most pressing global environmental problem of the 21st century. 'Practicing what we preach' and 'To promote the change that we want to see our TERRE’s working messages
About This Cause
TERRE is a global non-profit, non-partisan and independent organization dedicated to sustainable solutions to our development imperatives. TERRE is a member of IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), accredited by the United Nations, ECOSOC, UNFCCC, UNEP, and UNESCO. Our motto is: "To think is good but to act is better." TERRE also is the abbreviation for ‘Technology, Education, Research and Rehabilitation for the Environment. ‘These four tools make up our ‘environmental kit’ to undertake the work always respecting the value of our ecosystems. With the help of this toolbox, we strive to reach all strata of society, particularly the young generation and people at the bottom of the pyramid. TERRE in French means the Earth. The Earth is our only home in this vast universe. That itself is a strong enough reason that we should take care of it. As well as being stunningly beautiful, forests are vital for the health of our planet. They provide food and shelter for so much of life on Earth – from fungi and insects to tigers and elephants. More than half the world's land-based plants and animals, and three-quarters of all birds, live in and around forests. Forests have a big influence on rainfall patterns, water and soil quality and flood prevention too. Millions of people rely directly on forests as their home or for making a living. But the risks from deforestation go even wider. Trees absorb and store carbon dioxide. If forests are cleared, or even disturbed, they release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Forest loss and damage is the cause of around 10% of global warming. There’s simply no way we can fight the climate crisis if we don’t stop deforestation. We need to protect forests now more than ever. People have been deforesting the Earth for thousands of years, primarily to clear land for crops or livestock. Although tropical forests are largely confined to developing countries, they aren’t just meeting local or national needs; economic globalization means that the needs and wants of the global population are bearing down on them as well. Direct causes of deforestation are agricultural expansion, wood extraction (e.g., logging or wood harvest for domestic fuel or charcoal), and infrastructure expansion such as road building and urbanization. Rarely is there a single direct cause for deforestation. Most often, multiple processes work simultaneously or sequentially to cause deforestation. TERRE Policy Centre has been working for the betterment of the environment from the last decade, TERRE has implemented many afforestation projects with the help of different stockholders on many hills and barren lands. Till Date, TERRE has planted more than 2,50,000 trees at different locations and nearly 98% of trees are surviving. TERRE Policy Centre not only plants trees but also takes care of their survival. TERRE creates the employment at afforestation site, all the pre- and post-plantation work is done by the local community and the plantation maintenance work is also done by the local community. Due to the different technique of plantation, the forestry grows faster, and we can see the visible results in only 2-3 years. As the forestry grows in 2-3 years, the local indigenous biodiversity increases, and the soil quality of the area also increases. In the year 2015-16, TERRE planted 9500 trees on the barren land in Pune. After the assessment it is observed that the planation absorbs 1,29,000 Kg CO2 and produces 2,58,000 Kg Oxygen. Such projects can be replicated to make significant contribution to fight climate change. Such model also helps in community development. Teaming up on such projects can contribute to increase the green cover at a faster rate and on a larger scale. Appealing to you to provide us funding support so we can implement more such projects.
