Mission Statement

Sakshi envisions an ‘equal’ world of peaceful coexistence where human societies realise their potential for creative and transformative capacity to deal with conflict by replacing patterns of violence, discrimination and coercion with creative problem solving, increased dialogue, and nonviolent mechanisms of social change that assure access to justice for vulnerable and marginalised groups including women, children, youth.

About This Cause

Were you aware that one in every two children in India falls victim to sexual abuse, often perpetrated by individuals they know and trust? Child Sexual Abuse presents a pressing reality and is increasingly acknowledged worldwide. However, it often remains hidden due to denial, silence, and the stigma attached to it. So, what's a sustainable solution to prevent this pervasive abuse? How do we ensure every child feels safe at home? At Sakshi, our aim is to break the silence surrounding Child Sexual Abuse. This abuse largely stems from patriarchal beliefs that perpetuate sexism and outdated notions of family honor. When cases of rape or child sexual abuse surface in mainstream discourse, they spark outrage, protests, and media attention, yet often result in little concrete action. Our youth holds the key to effecting positive change in society. Through The Rakshin Project, we equip young adults with essential skills such as using respectful language and advocating for gender equality. We aspire to have knowledgeable individuals in every household who can prevent sexual abuse by: Recognizing and addressing abusive behavior. Confronting perpetrators and halting harmful actions. Providing support and ensuring the safety of the child. Creating safe environments and diffusing tense situations. Reporting abuse and aiding victims in their recovery. Since 2018, we've conducted sessions in 915 colleges nationwide, training 59,866 NSS student volunteers across 32 states and Union territories. Our aim is to challenge the notion that solely children bear the responsibility of safeguarding their surroundings. To combat Child Sexual Abuse effectively and provide meaningful support to survivors, commitment from all stakeholders—parents, educators, and guardians—is imperative. Our vision is to empower at least one Rakshin-trained individual in each household to drive collective action in their communities, fostering an environment free from abuse and violence. Join us as we endeavor to prevent abuse in every household and ensure #makehomeasafespace for every child.
