Mission Statement
Mann is a 14 year old nonprofit that works with 18+ adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Mann's training programs cater to individuals aged 18 years and above, primarily from low socioeconomic backgrounds. These are individuals who, due to economic constraints, have been deprived of formal training opportunities, compelling their families to make difficult choices between basic necessities and meeting the educational needs of their children. The participants in our programs have spent a significant portion of their lives conditioned to believe that they are burdens to their families and society. The initial months of training pose considerable challenges as they grapple with breaking free from this ingrained mindset of undervaluation. Unlearning this perception takes time and patience. However, once they begin to realize that their skills and abilities are not only valued but appreciated, a transformative shift occurs. Witnessing the growth and evolution of individuals who have long felt marginalized is a deeply rewarding aspect of our work. The journey from feeling undervalued to becoming receptive to training and positive attitudes is pivotal in fostering their personal development. Moreover, we recognize the potential for even greater impact if this training and artisanal change were to commence at a younger age. Early intervention can undoubtedly make a world of difference, laying a foundation for positive self-perception, skill development, and a more empowered future.
About This Cause
We use a .. o Deeply personalised ‘high touch’ approach to evaluate each individual's potential, develop the right path for them, train them for life and support them with all resources required to fulfill their unique potential and achieve their dreams. o Source suitable jobs with prospective employers, select the right person for the job and design the training for the desired skills, competencies and behaviours, with a clear road map for successful integration into the workplace. o Forge Partnerships with employers, provide on-going support and successfully integrate our students into their work force. o Forge lifelong connections and relationships with all our students – by being their friends, counsellors, and families. The Live ability training plans cover life skills - Holistic Development of young adults including skills like grooming, money and time management, travel thus preparing young adults for a life of independence and well being. Work ability includes work skills - Training and transition into work providing training and work opportunities that build successful, meaningful careers Mann's training programs extend beyond the individual with a disability, placing their needs and interests at the core of the process. The journey begins with a comprehensive assessment of their skills, conducted collaboratively with trainers and therapists. Subsequently, a tailored training and counseling plan is devised for the individual, their family, and friends. This counseling addresses not only vocational aspects but also delves into mental health, interpersonal dynamics, and social challenges. Upon entering the workforce, Mann ensures a supportive environment by educating the individual's team about their specific condition. This includes guidance on effective communication and providing the necessary skills to facilitate their professional growth. Consistent support is maintained through regular follow-ups, fostering an inclusive work culture. The first phase involves intensive training and skill development for our trainers –on the requirements of each industry, focusing on critical areas. This training is then given to the beneficiaries after which the onboarding process is designed to ensure a smooth transition into the workplace, with emphasis on understanding the unique strengths and needs of each employee. Mann goes beyond individual transformations by conducting Sensitization and Awareness Workshops. These sessions aim to correct common misconceptions Disabilities and raise awareness about the abilities inherent in disabilities. By breaking down mental barriers and fostering understanding, Mann paves the way for greater empathy, acceptance, and inclusion in society. Mann extends its outreach through workshops at diverse settings such as offices, clubs, academic institutions, and service providers. These workshops serve as a catalyst for transforming societal attitudes, promoting inclusivity, and creating a more empathetic and accepting environment for individuals with disabilities. In essence, Mann's comprehensive approach, encompassing personalized training, ongoing support, and societal awareness initiatives, exemplifies its commitment to normalizing inclusiveness and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society in the complex landscape of India. To date Mann has transformed the lives of over 1200 youth.
