About This Cause

Snehwan is a non-profit organization founded by Ashok Deshmane and team in December 2015. It is based in Pune, India. Our aim is to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for the less fortunate children of farmers and poor families. Snehwan means Forest of love, project that started with 18 children, is now a home for 180 – lovingly called Snehwan. Snehwan is a movement for those children who are deprived of learning due to adverse situations and surroundings. We believe education is a gift of life; it is the only way to improve the life of underprivileged children, forever. At the age of 26, Ashok Deshmane left a high-paying IT job to serve the social cause of sheltering children of underprivileged farmers and orphans from Maharashtra farmer suicides. He started a social project near Pune where the children have access to healthy food and quality education. What began with 18 children in 2015 is now a home for 180. In the early days, Deshmane tried working night shifts in his job. However, nine months in, he realized that it wasn't possible for him to give his wholehearted attention to the children. He quit his job and embarked on this journey of goodwill. With the vow to support him and his cause, Archana joined him in this voyage. Serving a mother's role in the children's lives, she ensures that everyone is well fed, taught, and cared for. Today, Ashok (31) and Archana (24) are dedicated to the cause and follow the path lightened by Swami Vivekanand and Baba Amte thru the 'Snehwan' initiative, a home where everyone stays together and eats together under one roof. Ashok's parents have also joined the couple on the journey. Dr. Ravindra and Dr. Smita Kulkarni recognized Ashok's passion for the noble cause and donated 2 acres of land to Snehwan. Swami Vivekanand Library, Kamdhenu cow shelter, and a computer training center have been instated as a part of Snehwan since 2019. To support the cause, you can join the following projects of Snehwan: Dnyanalaya: The residential project houses and sponsors the education and nutrition of 50 children who were farm laborers and orphans of farmers who have committed suicide due to debt and poor financial standings. Dnyan Chhatra: The initiative provides complete education to the Adivasi (tribal) female children from Thakarwadi, near Alandi. The girls are also provided with essential ration for survival. This is a significant step towards the education and empowerment of girls in the Adiwasi community. Vanchit Gram: Homeless girls that collect trash and beg on the streets of Bhosari city (suburbs of Pune) are brought into mainstream education by providing them with complete education and food accessibility. Mobile Health Center & Dispensary: Free health checkups and medications are provided to needy, underprivileged people on the streets through mobile health camps. Computer Education Center: Snehwan has also instated a fully functional computer education center that provides free technical education to 150 children. Kamdhenu Goshala: The Cow Shelter fosters and serves Desi Gir cows and calves. Children also learn practical skills of Dairy farming. Library: With the intention of sustaining the reading culture, a collection of 10,000 books has been made available to everyone free of cost. India's First Container Library is in Snehwan. Skill Development Center: At the skill development center, we believe that children should get a quality education, pursue the dreams of entrepreneurship, and create work opportunities for others in society. Entrepreneurial skills are taught to the children while also providing them knowledge related to the agricultural sector, including the production of oils, pulses, spices, papad, etc. Eco-Friendly Living: A.Solar Power Station: Snehwan is a sustainable organization that entirely runs on solar energy. The energy needs of the organization are generated on-site with solar panels. B.Biogas Generation Plant: Gas used for cooking is generated thru the Biogas plant at Snehwan, which produces 3000 liters of gas each day. Snehvan is dedicated to the overall development of children and focused on shaping the ideal youth of the country. Besides standard education, the children are also trained in yoga, music, cooking, farming, and dairy farming. Accounting, administration, and management studies are also taught in the facility. The couple has bestowed efforts to provide children with quality education and facility. Their journey is successfully embarked on with support from the community and people like you. Ashok and Archana have vowed to dedicate the rest of their life to serving the noble cause. Without any government grants and funding, the initiative is in full force to empower the youth of the country, despite the hardships. We request you to support the noble cause by contributing and joining us in the journey.
