Mission Statement
Rise Against Hunger India is driven by the vision of a world without hunger. Our programs and pathways to end hunger are in complete alignment with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 2. Our Mission is to nourish lives, empower communities, respond to emergencies and build a strong movement for hunger action champions.
About This Cause
Rise Against Hunger India was established in 2015 to drive hunger action in India through meal-packaging and other sustainable community development activities. Meal packaging events have become effective platforms to engage volunteers for hunger-action in a tangible manner. The meal packaging process combines rice, dal (lentils), dehydrated vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals into meal packets. The nutritious food stores easily, has a shelf-life of two years and transports quickly. Rise Against Hunger India meals support education programs, hospitals, orphanages, homes for the disabled and elderly. Nearly 65% of meals support children's feeding child and youth programs. Due to the ease of assembly and transport, and ease of cooking, meals are also shipped to areas in crisis. To make communities self-sustainable and not continue to depend on food-aid perennially, Rise Against Hunger India has developed detailed pathways-to-end-hunger which encompass initiatives such as increasing agricultural yields, improving livelihood options, and building resiliency among the most vulnerable. Our community empowerment programs enable food insecure communities to have the capacity and the resources to achieve sustainable food security. We facilitate Meal Packaging Volunteering Event for Corporate groups, Schools, Universities and Other formal/informal organizations. Dry, uncooked meals cost @21 per meal and a group of 30 to 40 people can package 10,000 meals in one hour. While the meals support ongoing programs such as education, youth development, skill centers, these easy-to-cook and easy-to-transport meals also provide a strong safety-net during emergencies and situations of extreme vulnerability. Between 2015 and 2021, our programs have reached over 3 million lives through 1) provision of around 30 million healthy and micro-nutrient rich meals; 2) healthcare projects such as mobile medical vans to provide medical support to rural families in Bihar and AP; 3) agriculture, vegetable production, livestock management projects in MP, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Bihar and Odisha and 4) disaster relief measures in 19 States including in Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Assam, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and many other locations. As part of COVID relief work, Rise Against Hunger India along with its field partners and volunteers served nearly 7 million meals to 960,000 people in many parts of the country. In some locations, we also supplied medical kits, essential medicines, beds, equipment. For communities with low vaccine coverage and in areas with high vaccine hesitancy, we organized special campaign to promote vaccination and COVID Appropriate Behavior.
