About This Cause
Women’s organization for Socio-Cultural Awareness (WOSCA) is a voluntary organization born on 20th December 1993 with the commitment to serve the underprivileged people of rural Odisha, India. Since its inception, WOSCA is taking up need-based programs primarily in the areas of livelihood, income generation, health, child rights environment conservation, and human resource development. Strategies adopted- to ensure development through community initiative, community participation and convergence of schemes. Our topmost priority is to grass root level operations, hence we intend to prepare the human resources as “active agent” for developmental actions. Core areas of work – Governance & Livelihoods, health & education access child rights & women empowerment and preservation of Environment & culture. Target Groups: Tribal women & children, landless, small & marginal landholders and people in distress. Under WOSCA, a Science program for government schools known as ‘Life-Lab’ was started in 2013. In the last 6 years, Life-Lab project has worked with more than 1500 schools across 6 states, impacting over 6.5 lakh students with the support of more than 24 Corporate Donors. At Life-lab, we make science education fun & engaging for children by building the capacities of teachers. Our Intervention has led to an increment of up to 50% in children's science scores & behavioural change in 80% of teachers to adopt Inquiry-Based Learning in classrooms. WOSCA has been certified by leading agencies across India including TechSoup, GiveIndia Foundation, Charity Aid Foundation, TISS and GuideStar India.
