About This Cause
The Chinmaya Movement began in 1951 from Pune with Swami Chinmayananda’s first public lecture series. It was registered as Chinmaya Mission in 1953, Chennai. Our spread in 26 countries includes: • Schools: 94 • Colleges: 9 • International Residential School: 1 • Vision Schools: 8 • Centres Worldwide: 300+ • Rural Development: 1000+ villages Education o Chinmaya Education Movement started in 1965 aiming to develop Vidyalayas with a difference through the Chinmaya Vision Programme. Today we have 94 schools, 9 colleges, 8 Vision Schools and an International Residential School. Central Chinmaya Mission Trust Education Cell (CCMT-EC), the governing body for the schools and colleges, provides invaluable support by conducting training sessions for principals and teachers, by developing resource material for teachers, by conducting school assessments, by ensuring appropriate infrastructure such as labs, computers, sports, etc., by identifying students for financial scholarships, by exposure to various resources, by empowering an overall change in their functioning and by providing tools to enhance the effectiveness of online and offline classes. Few of our students have excelled in their academic and professional fields. o Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) started in 2016, it is a de-novo deemed university based in Kerala, India. The university has a mission to blend the time-tested wisdom of India with cutting-edge university practice of the West. Striking a careful balance between the old and new, this unparalleled institution offers a space for inspiring interdisciplinary study, ensuring graduates lead with dynamic thinking and an all-encompassing vision. Every student at CVV is also given the tools to harness their inner potential and make significant transformations in their personality. The university offers Bachelors, Masters and PhD Degrees in fields of Psychology, Law and Public Policy, Commerce and Management Vedic Studies and Sanskrit, Meditation, Science and Society and many more. CVV’s holistic approach to education truly prepares our future leaders to go beyond their normal limits. o Sandeepany Sadhanalayas aim to mould young seekers into spiritual leaders. 30 students in 1963; Trained 1300+ students across the globe o Interactive value-based education platforms for toddlers, children, youth, adults and senior citizens enabling life transformation. These platforms enable life transformation lessons. We offer a wide array of study forums for all ages, promotes Indian classical art forms and operates numerous social service projects. Community Development Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development started in 1985 at Himachal Pradesh with the objective to facilitate participatory, integrated and sustainable development for the underprivileged in rural India. The programmes are- • To empower rural women through village level forums of Mahila Mandals. • To increase economic self-reliance through self-help groups, micro-credit banking, income generation activities and other village-level enterprises. • To provide community-based healthcare through preventive and promotional measures as well as provide primary healthcare services through dispensaries. • To tap into the latent potential of women, men, youth and children through the information of community-based organisations for their particular needs. • To create awareness of the environment and implement micro plans for managing and sustaining natural resources. • To promote literacy and value-based education. • To involve men in village development through Kisan Clubs • To address social justice and gender issues. • To provide community-based rehabilitation to the disabled. The programme is spread across 6 states and over 970 villages. HealthCare o Chinmaya Mission Hospital (CMH) Bengaluru started in 1970 serving all sections of society. With a strength of nearly 100 consulting specialists, it offers quality medical care for all; runs a free OPD for about 1000 patients every month; and 19% of its beds are in concessional wards. Senior citizens can avail a 20% discount in wards, under nursing and for lab investigations. Patients living in situations of disadvantage are treated from a welfare fund and those undergoing dialysis are reimbursed 30% of the charges. o Chinmaya Institute of Nursing started in 1985 offering 4 years B.Sc. degree. It is a sister institution of CMH Bengaluru, subsequently became a College. A four-year Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) Degree course in the Nursing College, with an approved intake of 40, started in 2009. It has well equipped classrooms and a digital library with National, International and E-Journals. ‘Service to Society is Service to God’ is the driving principle for the Institute. o Chinmaya Diagnostic Centres offer treatments, diagnosis and testing at subsidized prices. Several economically poor families seek access to this service for their health check-ups, diagnosis and treatments. Green Initiatives The organization is working on Green Initiatives through its centres and ashrams. Presently, four Vision Centres are adapting to new ways of using ecofriendly products in several ways such as: o Solar plants and panels are used, Tree Plantation is taking place, o Wastewater Treatment Plant is constructed, o using of Electric Vehicles to reduce the pollution, o Rain-Water Harvesting structures is being built, Miyawaki Forestation method is tested, etc are the methods practiced by Chinmaya Mission across its centres and ahsrams. Publications 1000+ titles; wide range of literature (print & digital) on self-development, meditation and service, age relevant, language modules: Facilitates Learning Chinmaya Prakashan, Chinmaya Mission’s state-of-the-art Publications unit has, since its inception, been in consonance with the grand vision of Swami Chinmayananda. Its aim is to make available an intelligent interpretation of the scriptures, in language modules the modern generation can relate to, facilitating the inner transformation of individuals, enabling them to become positive contributors to society. There are over 1000 titles, in 12 different languages, have been instrumental in connecting people with themselves. Our books are in wide range of literature (print & digital) on self-development, meditation and service, age relevant, language modules. Disaster Management The community service projects include the relief work operations in multiple disasters. Chinmaya Mission provides relief on various occasions such as: Earthquake in Gujarat, Tsunami in South India, Kargil War Fund, Floods in Odisha and Assam, Cyclone in Tamil Nadu, Contribution to PM Cares Fund, Contribution to Chief Minister Funds of various states, etc. COVID-19 relief work: Chinmaya Mission’s relief work has reached 5,67,952 beneficiaries through 281 frontline partners, including 83 hospitals and 145 Primary Healthcare Centres, in 20 Indian states. Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF) established in the year 1989 in Veliyanad, Kerala, is housed in Adi Sankara Nilayam, the maternal birth home of the great saint and philosopher Shri Adi Sankara. It is the research and Indic Studies wing of Chinmaya Mission. It is a centre of excellence for the study, analysis and dissemination of knowledge in the areas of Indian philosophy, culture, art, science and business management. It offers an ambience of peace and solitude for study, inquiry and contemplation to aspirants from all over the world. Swami Chinmayananda envisaged CIF to be a bridge between ‘the East and the West, the Past and Present, Science and Spirituality, and the Pundit and Public.’ CIF conducts online and postal courses in: o Sanskrit Grammar o Vedanta o Bhagavad Gita o Vedic Mathematics Its vibrant Publications Division has to its credit numerous research books, lecture series, journals and courses based on India’s ancient knowledge, available in print and digital formats.
