In the process we encourage the individual to think various pros and cons of a decision and make them analyse the outcome according to their situation and support them to take any decision suitable for them on their own without interference or compulsion. 2. Yoga and Meditation The shelter inmates do yoga and Meditation itation every morning after they wake up. There is an instructor who regulates the yoga and meditation and provides theyoga and meditation techniques. The inmates get an opportunity to keep theirmind serene and peaceful through this. This helps them to keep their mind calmand it helps them to take good decision about their life on their own Motivation on Skill Trainings We provide motivation classes with the help of the employment office to the women to get some skill training. We encourage them by telling that if they have a certain skill they will be able to plan their future well and have economic independence to tide over the problems they face in life. We give them an overview of the different types of skill trainings available and they are encouraged to choose according to their educational status and in-culcate a sense of hope in them. Skill Trainings on Tailoring We arrange for skill training pro-grammes to give them a hope for their future so that they can build their own life. Tailoring training programmes are conduct ed in the Swadhar home and the women are able to stitch their own clothes by themselves and for other inmates. When they leave the home, they have the confidence that they can buy a tailoring machine and continue their life. They also get training on paper bag making including paper bag folding, cutting and pasting from a training centre nearby. They get the confidence that they can start a business on their own with little investment. FREE TUITION CENTRES Students from the underprivileged background do not have place or persons to coach them to achieve excellence in their studies. When they return from school, they will be tempted to use the phone or watch TV and while their time away without proper guidance and direction. The under privileged children do not have the opportunity to go to formal tuition centre or afford to spend enormous amount of tuition fees. Imayam Social Welfare Association and All the Children Trust jointly conduct free tuition centres for enhancement and enrichment of the education of the children in the slums and suburbs and to nurture the talents of the underprivileged children. The mission of the programme is to bring out the talents of the children who are underprivileged. The first tuition centre was started on the 14th February 2022 in collaboration with the All the Children Trust for the children studying in the primary schools. We take special classes for them with the aid of a special teacher during the evening from 5 pm to 8 pm. Saturdays are play days for them and they are encouraged to play traditional games too. The tuition centre not only provides guidance for their education but also provides a platform to showcase their talents on extracurricular activities such as Poems, essay writing, story writing and other play way learning. Awareness was created among the parents and children that they should view education as learning and not to obsess over it. The students are also provided with nutrition snacks when they come to the centre. Imayam, in collaboration with Madukkarai Town Panchayat is implementing solid waste management programme in 18 Wards in the panchayat catering to 10421 residents. With the aid of 55 sanitary workers, 45 green friends and 22 toilet workers, the solid waste management programme is carried out in the panchayat. The key to efficient waste management is to ensure proper segregation of waste at source and to ensure that the waste goes through different streams of recycling and resource recovery. Then reduced final residue is then deposited scientifically in sanitary landfills. Sanitary landfills are the ultimate means of disposal for unutilised municipal solid waste from waste processing facilities and other types of inorganic waste that cannot be reused or recycled. SOLID WASTWE MANAGMENT At Madukkarai Town panchayat, Imayam is contributing to solid waste management by creating awareness on waste and segretation of waste. Training has been provided to 55 sanitary workers and 45 green friends at the panchayat to collect waste from every door in the panchayat and to segregate the work at the source itself. The workers are also trained to train the residents about source segregation at source and give the waste in two main categories of waste biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. They are also given training on home composting if they have enough space to do it. The workers then segregate the collected waste from the residents and use the biodegradable waste for producing fertiliser through composting and they transport the non-biodegradable waste to the sanitary landfill. Sanitary workers are also involved in cleaning the roads and drainage systems. Apart from this, 22 toilet workers maintain the public toilets in the wards. Before lockdown period, Imayam was operating 11 creches in the locality. Due to Corona and lock- down, Imayam was not able to continue the operation of the crèche. The crèche teachers were con- tinuously in contact with the mothers and children and were monitoring their health status. They recorded rhymes and stories and shared through Whatsapp for the kids. The parents shared the rhymes and stories with the kids and made them learn it. Through conference all, awareness on Covid 19 was given to the parents on 5 topics for 5 days such as importance of social distancing, importance of wearing mask, steam inhaling methods and techniques, about kabasura drink and to increase the immunity power of the children and the family members.
