About This Cause
Adamya Chetana is a voluntary organization working in the areas of education and social sphere with Anna – Akshara – Arogya – Prakruti – Samskruti (Food – Education – Health – Sustainability - Culture) as its core intervention areas. Started in the year 1997, Adamya Chetana has been working with dedication and has grown both in the number of people reached and in different types of programs. Our initiatives aim to foster holistic growth through combating hunger, providing quality education, ensuring healthcare access, advocating practical sustainability and preserving cultural heritage. Our Projects A) Mid-Day Meal Programme Since its launch in 2003, the mid-day meal program at Adamya Chetana, known as Annapoorna, serves over 1,50,000 children daily across Bengaluru, Hubballi, Kalaburgi in Karnataka, and Jodhpur in Rajasthan. In collaboration with governments, Annapoorna provides hot, delicious, and nutritious meals to government school children. The provision of good nutrition through the mid-day meal program has had far-reaching benefits. One of the notable outcomes has been a significant increase in school attendance, resulting in improved overall health and learning outcomes. Green Kitchen Annapoorna takes pride in its commitment to sustainability. The Annapoorna kitchen in Bengaluru has been completely fossil-fuel-free since 2008, pioneering the use of renewable, fossil-free fuels derived from waste. This groundbreaking approach saves an impressive 60 gas cylinders or 300 liters of diesel/petrol every day. Annapoorna sets an example for environmentally conscious and sustainable cooking practices. Zero-waste Kitchen Annapoorna has achieved an exceptional milestone in waste management as well. Since 2010, the Annapoorna kitchen has operated as a zero-garbage facility. Not a single kilogram of waste is discarded into municipal bins. This remarkable feat has served as a catalyst, inspiring numerous kitchens in Bengaluru to adopt garbage-free practices. Nurturing Young Minds - Children’s Wall Magazine Chinnara Chetana, a vibrant monthly wall magazine, was conceptualised in 2008 to inspire school children. It features captivating articles on environmental awareness and a green lifestyle in both Kannada and English. Adorning the walls of numerous schools in Karnataka, it sparks curiosity and encourages children to think critically about environmental conservation. With its visually appealing design, Chinnara Chetana serves as a constant reminder for students to embrace sustainability. By nurturing young minds and instilling a sense of responsibility, we aim to create a greener future. Embracing a Green Lifestyle In 2015, Shri AnanthKumar initiated a powerful movement called Sasyagraha, urging individuals to incorporate a Green Lifestyle into their daily lives. Adamya Chetana wholeheartedly embraces this vision and runs various programs under the Sasyagraha movement to raise awareness and encourage the adoption of sustainable practices. Through Sasyagraha, Adamya Chetana aims to inspire households, schools, colleges, and offices to embrace eco-friendly choices. The programs focus on spreading awareness about the importance of sustainability and providing practical guidance on incorporating green practices into everyday routines. Reusable Plate-Bank In various functions and events, the use of disposable plastic, paper, styrofoam or areca nut plates and cups contributes to our growing garbage problem. Improper recycling of these items further adds to pollution in our cities and oceans. As a sustainable solution, Adamya Chetana has established a unique plate-bank consisting of approximately 10,000 sets of steel plates, spoons, tumblers, bowls and cups. Anyone can borrow these reusable utensils from the plate-bank for their events at home or at office, free of charge. By utilising these eco-friendly alternatives, events can turn green and significantly reduce waste. At Adamya Chetana, we practice and promote the principles of Reduce and Reuse, striving to minimise our environmental impact. Currently, these plate banks are operational in Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Hubballi, Kalaburgi, Mysuru, Udupi, Gadag, Shivamogga. Few more are in the pipeline. Green Bengaluru 1:1 – Green Sunday Tree Planting In response to the growing concerns of urbanisation, dwindling green cover, increasing air pollution, and shifting weather patterns, Shri AnanthKumar initiated the Green Sunday program in January 2016, a citizen-run drive. His vision was to ensure that every person in the city had at least one tree. He passionately urged everyone to plant trees every week, igniting a movement for environmental restoration. Since then, Adamya Chetana has been systematically organising the Green Sunday program, consistently running it for over 450 consecutive Sundays as of August 2024. A growing number of citizens plant, install tree guards, manure, and water every Sunday. There is also a continuous monitoring system designed to ensure the health of these plants up to three years. This initiative has gained tremendous momentum, inspiring numerous local welfare organisations, youth groups, and voluntary organisations across Bengaluru, Raichur, Bellary, Mysuru and other cities to join hands in planting and nurturing trees. Nitya Annadana - Daily Food for the Needy No one should go hungry. Adamya Chetana believes in this principle and serves free food every afternoon to students, the poor, and needy people of all castes and creeds. Originally initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic in November 2020 to address the hardships faced by many, especially the elderly, we have 8 centers in Bengaluru, Hubballi, Kalaburagi and Jodhpur. Across these eight locations, over 1500-2000 people are being provided with nourishing mid-day meals every day. Nutritious Satvik Food Movement As part of its comprehensive nutrition programs, Adamya Chetana promotes the consumption of wholesome Satvik food. To raise awareness and encourage its adoption, the organisation showcases and facilitates the sale of specially recommended nutritious food grains. By partnering with food scientists and nutritionists, Adamya Chetana aims to improve overall health and well-being through the power of balanced and nourishing diets.
