About This Cause
The Foundation for MSME Clusters (FMC) is a pioneering non-governmental, not-for-profit public charitable trust established in India in 2005. FMC is committed to fostering livelihood enhancement and environmental sustainability through its innovative cluster development approach. Operating across more than 300 MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise) clusters, FMC has notably enhanced the growth of over 100,000 artisanal and industrial entities ranging from household operations to medium-sized production units. FMC is at the forefront of cluster-based development, managing India's sole cluster observatory (https://www.clusterobservatory.in/) which serves as a crucial resource for organizations nationwide focused on similar development efforts. FMC is an agile and responsive organization that transcends sectoral and geographical boundaries. It has expertise in digital empowerment, climate resilience, textiles, bamboo, energy, and handicrafts. Through a participatory methodology, FMC identifies key challenges and opportunities within local MSME ecosystems and their value chains, devising tailored strategies and action plans. We not only foster skills development and mutual trust among enterprises and institutions but also facilitate access to public funding for sustainability initiatives. Our dedicated team of full-time 52 professionals is deeply involved in diverse projects spanning policy research, skilling, energy, environment, financial linkages, infrastructure, governance, and market promotion. These projects receive robust support from a network of government bodies, corporate partners, and institutional donors including the Ministry of MSME, NABARD, SlDBl, HCL Foundation, CISCO, Hindalco, Yes Bank, FNF, European Commission, SAARC Development Fund, and GIZ among others. lnternationally, FMC has so far extended its expertise in cluster development to 20 countries, achieving global influence in cluster development. With 42 scholarly publications (https://fmc.org.in/publications) and audio-visual tools (https://fmc.org.in/video-library/), FMC continues to contribute valuable insights and practical guidance to the MSMEs and their stakeholders. Guided by the vision of an 'economically progressive, socially connected, environmentally sustainable world that is spiritually rooted and composed of interconnected yet diverse local socio-economic systems'. FMC's mission is to 'Assist institutions undertake effective and inclusive cluster-based local area development in developing and transition economies.' Steered by an eminent Board of Trustees under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ajay Shankar (Former Secretary, Department of lndustrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India) and Executive Director Mr. Mukesh Gulati, FMC works across 28 Indian states with branch/project offices in 19 cities across India.
