About This Cause

I. INTRODUCTION : INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FOR THE RURAL POOR -Trust was registered under Indian Trust Act 1882 in the year 1989 And also registered under Foreign Contribution regulation act in the year 1992 and renewed it in 2022. We registered as Charitable Trust under Indian Income Tax under 12AA and 80G. We do have registered under Ministry of Corporate Affairs as CSR Form1. The main purpose of the organisation is to study the real situation of the people (Research) through participatory approach and find the alternatives to improve the rural downtrodden. Board of Trustees: Managing Trustee Dr.Irudayasamy is a Social Scientist and 30 years experience By involving with all these activities his capacity has been increased. The other Trustees Prof. Usha is Asst Professor in Social Work Department, Patrician College, Chennai having 30 years experience. Mrs.Jaya Mary having 5 years Social work Experience. We started our activities in the year 1989 as an entry point to the community, we started a small clinic in a very remote village where the medical facilities were totally denied. It was established in a right place to meet the people needs, this gave an good impact to our programmes. UNDER SDG 3: GOOD HEALTH & WELL-BEING: Under this SDG we work on creating good health to communities specially tribal communities and dalit communities on community health. Every year we organised special campaign on HAND WASH to general public and well as school children. Steps of Hand wash with liquids or soaps and its importance to them. UNDER SDG 4 QUALITY EDUCATION: IRDRP focuses on Children Education on stone Quarry mines and Rural agriculture workers. We found in some situation children were employed as Labours in trucks and other works. Hence we started Child labour intervention program in 4 stone quarry units covering 160 child labours and 120 school going children supporting their education, health and skill development. We do Convenient Education Centre where the children come and learn read and write and continuing their studies informally and we do also Supportive education to school going children of stone quarry parents to equip their reading and learning skills. Apart from education we do life skill, child rights, computer education, spoken English, Tailoring, Nursing and beautician courses for them to get decent jobs. We do placement also for them. We also supports Orphan Children with AIDS and Children with disabilities for their school education and health supports. Monthly sponsorship are provided to 25 Orphan children from 2012onwards by OSI, France, & CAF Belgium. Still we are continuing it. IRDRP constructed a Technical school ground floor having 6 rooms. Every year they visit our organisation and monitor it. We are giving skill training to 900 children in computer, Spoken English, sewing tailoring course, beauty culture courses for child labours getting skill training and placed in decent jobs. We introduced Nursing course for them. Age group 14-18, 21years we are presently covering under this program. SDG6: CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION: Under this SDG we work on supply of safe water through Reverse Osmosis(RO) processed water. We installed units in 8 schools and 3 Rural communities to collect safe RO water. We also talk on Rain Water harvest and save water, minimal use of water in awareness meetings. We constructed 500 house hold Toilets and repaired non-functional toilets functional in villages in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Villupuram and Chenglepettu Districts of Tamilnadu. We also work on Menstrual Health Management in all districts of Tamilnadu among Tribal communities, school children through NGOs and CBOs. We manufacture low cost disposable pads, Reusable cloth menstrual pads and distribute to the people for managing their safe menstrual periods. We work through NGOs in Tamilnadu to promote Menstrual Health Management through awareness raising and giving choice to women to select menstrual pad depending on their needs. We provide single use pad for Rs.2/- and Reusable cloth pad for Rs.15/- and herbal pad for Rs.80/- Yearly 1million girls and women need to be covered. SDG8: DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: We are running skill training for unemployed youths, providing add on skills to college and school children and place them in decent jobs. Yearly we train 900 youth and students in English coaching, computer basic training, Mobile repair services training, Tailoring course and Nursing course. We have two centre one in Head Office Chrompet, Another one in Somangalam catering to rural youths. 90% of them are placed in decent jobs in SDG 17: PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS: We are Networking with Other organisation and we promoted Health through NGOs and CBOs for Health Issues. We promoted “Consortium of Health Association International”(C-HAI). Through this network we work in southern states in India and Cambodia with NGOs to promote Health specially WASH promotion.
