About This Cause

INTRODUCTION TO SPARSHA TRUST Sparsha Trust has been working for past 13 years for the care, protection ,education, development and rehabilitation of underprivileged children and youth. Started in 2005 by a group of Master of social work (MSW) students, its vision is to create a society free of exploitation of children, and support children to discover their potential and provide opportunities for comprehensive development. So far, the organization reached more than 8000 children and successfully rehabilitated more than 3000 school dropouts, street children, begging, rag picking, substance abuse and child laborers through Sparsha’s various projects, brought them into mainstream and reunited with families. The organization is dedicated to give the tender care to each child in greater need of care and protection. Sparsha has started educational training centers along with shelters in 6 locations across Bangalore, India. Around 430 children (including contact point and day care center) make use of these facilities daily. Approximately 125 children are staying in 5 different shelters of Sparsha. Children have been learning and developing through various multidimensional development opportunities. In addition to this, Sparsha is running two children community libraries, two children multidimensional learning centers and night shelters for more than 95 homeless elder citizens. Mission To create a society free of exploitation of children and help children manifest their inherent potential and talents. Objectives • Create a safe home for every child with a free access to basic facilities (food, health, clothing) • Ensure that children enjoy their constitutional rights and eradicate the child labor system • Develop the children’s creativity and strengthen their self-confidence • Provide quality and skill-oriented education to empower underprivileged children and youths • Create a community of responsibility and solidarity in which every child has her/his own place • Raise public awareness about Child Rights: care, protection, development and education Journey of Sparsha – Time line of projects • Year 2005 Sparsha Trust was founded by a handful of young graduates with master’s degrees in social work. They began in June 2006 by building a center “Shikshana Mitra”(Friend fro education) in the slums of the Yeshwanthpura Singh communities. The center was imagined as a shelter where the slum children would be safe, where they would be nurtured, tutored and transitioned into mainstream schools. With members volunteered in many social works such as conducting tuition and coaching classes for children in low income communities free of cost, research and identifying the needs. This experience helped Sparsha Trust to understand the ground realities and the needs of the poor. • Year 2009 Makkaladhama (a sanctuary for children) started in a cowshed with just 5 children. Today, the vision is to create a children’s sanctuary or Makkala Dhama shelter for 300 boys. • Year 2010 Shikshana Mithra 1 & 2 (Friend for education) Urban Deprived Children Centre (UDC) and “Gnyanamithra” (Friend for knowledge) library for community children. • Year 2011 : Samudaya Mithra (A Friend for Community), Early child care centers (ECE) or Zero schools for two years • Year 2012 : Multi-dimensional Learning Center “Vignana Mitra” and Aptamitha” (urban homeless shelter), Makkala Mitra 1 and 2 (Open shelters) • Year 2015 : Child Help Line 1098 • Year 2016 : Nisarga Grama- A Multi-dimensional development center with capacity to house 300 children • Year 2016 : Mobile Creche program and started MAST and SteP Centers (Vocational skill training centers for youth) • Year 2017 : Alumni for Village Development (AVID) • Year 2017 : Initiated Model school and Model Anganawadi project Nisarga Grama Sparsha trust and its team initiated its dream project “Nisarga Grama” – a nature village for 500 street and working children.
