About This Cause
Nireekshana ACET (AIDS Care, Education & Training) is a community based initiative dedicated to the compassionate and holistic care and support of people living with HIV/AIDS. ‘Nireekshana’ in Telugu is “hope which overcomes all circumstances”. Nireekshana initiated HIV/AIDS care in Hyderabad, India in the year 2004, and has successfully completed 13 years of providing care to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Through the years 3 satellite clinics have been opened in different parts of India with the same care model as that in the Hyderabad branch. Nireekshana’s vision to provide holistic care not only to those infected by the disease but also to those affected by the disease sets them apart from other HIV/AIDS care centres. The notion that an individual registered in Nireekshana is not just a patient with a case number; but rather is seen as a valued mother, wife and daughter led the work to diversify into multiple areas of social care. Nireekshana provides medical, clinic-based services to people living with AIDS as well as community outreach services to educate and create awareness on HIV and AIDS. It is run by about 15 core staff, including 4 doctors, a scientist, research scholars and part time staff & volunteers. Doctors, visitors and youth from within the country and abroad, volunteer at the clinic on a regular basis. The activities of Nireekshana can be broadly grouped into clinic based treatment services, community care outreach, AIDS awareness and training, women’s and child empowerment programs and research.
