Mission Statement
Facilitate community action by enabling children and their families into being self-reliant along the principles of Child Rights, Equity and Justice.
About This Cause
Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT), a NGO based out of Bandra, Mumbai is committed towards taking forward the national and state agenda of equal opportunities for all children and their families and safeguarding their rights to live with dignity. Aligning its initiatives with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set down by the United Nations, CCDT works on rights-based and needs-based approaches. The programing is centred around the needs of maternal and child health and nutrition of marginalized families and the community they live in, with the belief that working with children in isolation cannot create a lasting change. Therefore, a holistic approach of working with the community and various other stakeholders to supplement the overall development of children, is undertaken. Over the last 3 decades, CCDT has worked with the most marginalized and vulnerable communities across Maharashtra, reaching out to and transforming the lives of over 2 million children and families in crises. Founded in 1990, with its first outreach program in a self-settled colony of leprosy patients in Borivali, CCDT, with their in-depth programing model and sustained efforts, slowed down the epidemic and helped the community become self-reliant over a period of time. CCDT’s in-depth knowledge of responding to communicable disease (leprosy) at the community level was well recognised by the Government and other stakeholders. This led to CCDT’s involvement in a big way to combat another communicable disease, the HIV/AIDS. CCDT was one of the pioneer organizations to initiate a residential care program (Shelter Home) for children infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS. Another flagship program of CCDT is the Home Based Care Program with families living with HIV/AIDS. Over the years, Child Protection, Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition and Adolescent/Youth Empowerment emerged as the key focus areas of CCDT’s intervention programs. Collaborating to make the interventions impactful, CCDT works together with Government Departments, ICDS, Nutrition Mission, Municipal Corporations, Anganwadis and Health Posts to achieve scale and results. CCDT has an extensive experience of working with and for the community. It has impacted the lives of more than 2 million individuals through its interventions. CCDT is now working on various projects Pan-India, either as the sole implementation partner or in-partnership with other community-based organizations like EduBridge Learning, under the strategic program themes of Child Protection, Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition and Adolescent/Youth Empowerment as well as Skill Development and Workforce development programs.
