Mission Statement
Vidyaranya is envisioned in 1991, with a vision “A prosperous, harmonious and peaceful Society’’ and a mission with “To work with marginalized sections of the society towards their empowerment and enable them to evolve a vision of an alternative society including alternate models of social and economic relations and alternate development paradigm’.
About This Cause
Understanding about programmes: • Children with disabilities, mentally challenged or children with special needs still a annoyance for the society- till now this is common believe of human beings. Vidyaranya is trying to make intervention in this area to change the mind set of people by enabling the children with proper guidance in residential care. The situation is much more critical for poor and marginalized section of the society. For them it is very difficult to earn daily livelihood needs for their family and proper education, training and treatment is far from their reach. Vidyaranya go ahead for the help of these children. Currently three mentally challenged residential schools are running by Vidyaranya in three different locations- Avakasha School for Disabled at Hassan, Spurthi Residential School for mentally challenged children at Mandur and Vruthivikalachethana Residential School at Yelahanka New Town. But mild and moderate mentally challenged are get admitted in the institution, those who are capable to trained and educated. The admission is taking place after submitting the doctor certificate by the parents. The numbers of children in these schools is accordingly 100, 60 and 45. And most of their age group is in between 6 to 14 years. Children are providing food, shelter, medicine, entertainment facilities, physiotherapy and essential MR kit for their education purpose. All the residential schools are properly enriched with trained teacher, ayahs for taking care of children. Parents meeting and medical checkup is also conducted occasionally. • Vidyaranya another area of work intervention is working for under privileged children like street children, orphans, run away, begging, child laborer, sexually abused and migrant’s children. For the improvement of such children, especially for girl children Vidyaranya is running a home, named “Namma Mane (Our Home) at Kodihalli, Bangalore. Currently 50 children can get the benefited to continue their education. They are also providing food, cloth, shelter and necessary educational facilities, medicine. Children of different age group are staying there. They are getting admission in playschool, primary school, high school. Those children have good IQ level they are also get admission in English medium schools. For their overall development different extracurricular activities are also taking place. For the proper management of home and taking care of children education-coordinator, managers and house mothers and security are there. For the empowerment of girls and boys children Vidyaranya is also operating two open shelters in two different locations- KR Puram & Yelahanka New Town. 50 children are getting benefit from this programme. The targeted beneficiaries are mostly street children, child labourer, run away, street performer, baggers from such kind of vulnerable conditions. Vidyaranya field team make search of such children in different locations and take them in the centers towards providing better future. They are providing food, shelter to overcome the vulnerable situation through which they are going on. They are also connected with educational institution for further continuation of their studies. Those who are very far from the light of education the staffs of Vidyaranya taking care of them to provide basic education for them. Beside this Vidyaranya is also providing training on skill development like computer, spoken English classes and also bridge course. • Vidyaranya another key area of concern is empowerment women those who are in vulnerable conditions- Sexually exploited, widows, victims of domestic violence, divorced. For the empowerment of such women and also for their rehabilitation Vidyaranya running two residential shelter Sarojini and Sanjeevini under Swadhar Programme in Mandur and Hassan. Where they are providing food, shelter and skill development training for their empowerment. The long term focus of the programme is that in near future they are able to become economically independent by doing any entrepreneurial activities or doing some jobs. For the victimized of human trafficking Vidyaranya run a centre, Ujjawala at Medahally, Bangalore from 2008. Currently 50 women are getting benefited from this programme. Vidyaranya is trying to get them out from their stressed situation and want to give them a normal life. Simultaneously for their self sufficiency conducting training in different vocational based trade like beautician course, tailoring, artificial jewelry making, candle making, paper work etc. Beside this for the empowerment of women, Vidyaranya is running a hostel for working women those who belong from very poor family conditions. • Vidyaranya is also working for the aged persons also. Specially they don’t have any family or mistreated and deserted by their families. Currently Vidyaranya is operating two old aged homes- Hosabelaku Old aged home for men at Mandur and another one Gandhi old aged home for women at Hassan. Altogether 50 aged persons can accommodate in these centre with the facilities of food, shelter and medicine. A group of people are involved there for taking care of them. • Vidyaranya is also providing opportunities to under privileged women and girls through vocational skill development programmes and they can also use their acquired skills.
