Mission Statement
The main mission of our society is to enhance the lives of underprivileged rural children through holistic education, nutrition and healthcare. There are certain projects that we are working on for the betterment of the students and whole society: 1. Holistic Education Our society runs a care centre providing holistic education to young poor students, particularly girls, by providing them with good learning opportunities in a happy and stable environment. We aim to create change agents who will eventually transform both their families as well as the communities in which they live. 2. Tinkering lab- Every child, a creator Our Society is setting up a Tinkering Lab for the students. This Lab is partly inspired by the vision of the Atal Tinkering Lab scheme launched by the Government of India, NITI Aayog & also draws from best practices across the world. This Lab will contain most of the necessary equipment, hardware & resources to achieve our vision. The Tinkering Lab is an engaging space where every student brings to life & nurtures the inventor, designer, maker, problem-solver & storyteller within. 3. Vocational Stream With the attempt to make every child employable we have initiated a new program called the ‘Vocational Stream’. Students less inclined to academics will be selected for this stream and will complete their 12th through NIOS (Open School). We will help ensure they learn their language, computer and number skills well. Additionally, we shall identify a special skill, and help with the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge of this skill, making them essential for any kind of industrial employment in the future. 4. STEM activities across primary, elementary and senior secondary levels. Our emphasis on science & mathematics was significant with our investment in labs (Physics, Chemistry, Biology & Mathematics) as well as investment in the vital Teaching Learning Materials (TLM) & professional development. Since 2017, we have taken a greater leap with our commitment by working towards integrating our emphasis into a STEM – centred (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) pedagogy. 5. Hostel facilities This project will provide hostel facilities along with mentorship, guidance, physical fitness, self-defence and nutrition to 100 needy children. All children hail from various locations, primarily villages and hilly areas of Uttarakhand. They belong to economically disadvantaged backgrounds where there is lack of running water, electricity, and open defecation aggravate this problem. We are providing our students a protective and healthy environment with all the facilities that they need. 6. Nutrition and Medical Care PYDS also takes care of health & medical facilities. It’s a very important aspect, as in time of emergencies and health issues, the students should get a proper treatment and facilities. The BMI of each student is tracked and even fund their meals. All children in our care are given vaccination and inoculation to protect them from diseases. Recently we had an accident with our student, Mahi Pundir, daughter of a marginal farmer in an interior village, who suffered 55% burns in a fire accident at Home. She was given up by government doctors as beyond recovery, but is today a happy child, playing with her class mates in the 3rd class. All our wards receive comprehensive total medical care. 7. Post 12th support Our care and attention does not end with their schooling. We are concerned with their ability to lead productive lives. We counsel and assist them in accessing University programs and thereafter help them financially if necessary, in going through the University and are finally happy to see them settled in life. Our students have received scholarship to study at Ashoka University, UPES, etc. 8. Navjeevan Navjeevan is our successful experimental programme where underprivileged children not merely a good education but gets an opportunity to access a favourable environment conducive to learning, normally available only to the economically privileged. We took in completely uneducated poor without a school background at ages 10 to 12 and are training them to gain admission into age appropriate classes within 12 to 18 months. 9. Transport Facilities We provide our students with pick and drop facility and even take them out for field trips so that they get experience and even learn new things practically.
About This Cause
PYDS is a registered Society located in the foothills of Himalayas, India. To fight the backwardness of the community that they serve, it has embarked upon a journey of transforming underprivileged children through a nationally affiliated School, PYDS learning Academy. It provides value-based learning, holistic education, wholesome nourishment, medical support, hostel facilities to senior students, digital learning aids and exposure. Everything is provided free of cost. The effort is currently helping about 531 economically disadvantaged students, particularly girls. It has brought hope to communities, salvaged potential anti-socials and created possible change makers. The Institution should however in no way be looked upon as merely a School. The beneficiaries are selected through a well-thought process. Children attend School 6 days a week, 10 hours a day & 270 days a year. 4 feeds including fruits are provided every day to students. A well-trained faculty, using several well-known partnerships, impart “learning by doing” education. Post School assistance is also provided to help all deserving students’ progress into higher learning. All these children are employable and have their families escape the cycle of poverty. Some of them have excelled and could be proud alumina of any school. Many are pursuing higher education The Society started with only one donor; the founder himself an 80 years old ‘young man’ who still works full time and does not take any reimbursement for his round the clock services. The Governing body which now comprises of 9 Directors also works altruistically. The 450 individual donors and 9 Corporates associated with the cause drive the honest implementation of the Mission.
