Mission Statement

IAB affirms its commitment to empower visually challenged people become self-reliant by providing comprehensive rehabilitation, education and employment opportunities. IAB has a special focus on the socio economically disadvantaged visually challenged children and adults, particularly those from rural areas.

About This Cause

Indian Association for the Blind (IAB), based in Madurai, South Tamil Nadu, is a well-known non-profit organization working at the grassroots level for the education, employment and rehabilitation of people with visual challenges. It was established in 1985 by visually challenged activist late Mr. S.M.A.Jinnah and a group of like-minded visually challenged people with the vision “To provide comprehensive education, rehabilitation and employment opportunities for socio-economically disempowered visually challenged children and youths with a special focus on those living in rural areas”. Since its inception, IAB has educated and rehabilitated more than 30,000+ visually challenged beneficiaries. At present, more than 1100 visually challenged beneficiaries are being supported by IAB to pursue their dreams of self-reliance and a life of dignity. Services offered by IAB includes: • Education • Career and Skills Training • Residential Services • Support services In recognition of its pioneering work in the field of disability, IAB was conferred three-times the “National Award for the Best Institution” by the Government of India.
