Mission Statement
To Inspire and Empower the under privileged through education and health care, offering humanitarian help for the aged, needy and neglected, regardless of their race, creed and caste, by the Grace of our Lord JESUS CHRIST.
About This Cause
St.Gregorios Balagram is a registered charitable society set up in 1985 by Orthodox Church of India (with 80G and FCRA registrarions) to look after healthy male children of leprosy patients irrespective of caste, creed or religion. It provides a home away from home to these children to grow up as healthy and useful citizens. It is based at Yacharam, a small village, 50 kilometers from Hyderabad on the Nagarjuna Sagar Highway, in TELANGANA. Over 100 children have completed their studies and have found useful vocations. They include engineers, post graduate managers, optometrists, vision technicians, male nurses, pharmacists etc. Since Balagram is situated in an area where quality medical care is lacking, Balagram took the initiative and set up a modern eye hospital with the technical assistance of world renowned LV Prasad Eye Institute of Hyderabad (LVPEI). Started in 2001 the eye hospital has treated over 80000 patients and has carried out over 12000 cataract surgeries already, most of them free of cost. The hospital has also set up 2 vision centres in the surrounding villages to provide free eye checkup with trained technicians. The hospital is staffed by trained ophthalmologist and support staff trained in LVPEI. Balagram Eye Hospital is also now implementing an ambitious Hospital Based Community Eye Health Programme in 58 gram panchayats in Yacharam, Ibrahimpatan, Manchal and Kandakur mandals of Ranga Reddi district with the active participation of Operation Eyesight Universal. The aim is to make all villages in the target area AVOIDABLE BLINDNESS FREE . Already 16 villages have been made blindness free with active counselling and treatment. We have won an award from Vision 2020 Right to Sight Society of India for this innovation in an All India Competition. Since there are no good English medium schools around, balagram decided to set up an English medium School following CBSE curriculum. Already the school has started functioning in an existing building. A new building for the school following CBSE norms is under construction. Balagram also runs an old age home in its campus (Prathyasa Bhavan).. HOW YOU CAN HELP US…. Balagram entirely depends on donations from its well wishers for its activities.
