Mission Statement
NEG-FIRE promotes quality and joyful education for children from the marginalised communities resulting in social transformation in India, while upholding the values of equity, justice, peace, respect for all, pluralism, transparency and accountability. NEG-FIRE works with marginalised communities with a focus on Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). NEG-FIRE works with children from marginalised communities; collaborates with local community groups led by representatives from marginalised communities; promotes community stakeholders (and other relevant players) to lead the educational processes beyond the project period. NEG-FIRE engages with government institutions to create replicable models for wider impact.
About This Cause
NEG-FIRE is a knowledge based development organization promoting quality education for children from the marginalized communities of India. NEG-FIRE aims to transform the lives of children from marginalized communities through education and by strategic partnership with local NGOs and community groups. NEG-FIRE was registered as a legal entity in March 2005. However, the journey began in 1989 as a joint initiative of “Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI)” and “KZE/MISEREOR”, the “German Catholic Bishops' Organisation for Development Cooperation”. NEG was formed as a 'Think Tank' to promote education for children from marginalized communities. Through project support, training of teachers, preparation of child-friendly teaching material and construction of schools was undertaken. Following extensive consultations it was decided that NEG-FIRE should champion reaching education to the poorest tribal children and connect them to mainstream education. This led to formation of NEG-FIRE in 2005.
