New Delhi, Delhi, 110001 India

Mission Statement

Mobile Creches firmly believe in restoring the rights of the young child by providing the working mother with child care support through an integrated programme aimed at holistic development of the young child. This releases the older child from the responsibilities of sibling care and allows the mother to go for work. Childcare initiatives also provide an entry point for effective initiatives in health, education and empowerment. It strikes at the very root of poverty by breaking the cycle of ill health, poor skills and low incomes. Since 1969, Mobile Creches (MC) has provided Child Care services to 7, 50,000 children. Under the MC program, we run child care Centers at construction sites and have community based interventions in urban slums in the National Capital Region. Our training and advocacy efforts cover most of the North Indian belt. Mobile Creches is one of the few organizations that have been pioneering the cause of Early Child Care and development (ECCD).

About This Cause

Mobile Creches aims at promoting Early Childhood Development (ECCD) including health, nutrition, learning, care and protection of young children, through direct action at urban slums and construction sites in Delhi (NCR) and working in collaboration with NGOs by building their capacities in childcare practices and through advocacy. What sets Mobile Creches apart from other organizations working with children is our dual focus on the young child under 6 years in the urban slums and the migrant child, up to 14 years, on construction sites. The multi-pronged approach adopted by Mobile Creches – working with construction worker’s children, urban slum communities, training and advocacy – encompasses both the short term need and a long term vision. Key Achievements • Reached 750,000 children • Trained 6000 childcare workers • Run over 650 daycare Centers • Co-founded national networks, led campaigns for the young child • Inputs to National Policy for Children PROGRAMMES OF MOBILE CRECHES The Mobile Creches program has 4 main components which are explained below: 1. Daycare Program (at Construction site): The day-care program runs from 9 a.m - 5 p.m, 6 days a week. The services include age-appropriate stimulation and educational activities for infants (Birth-3 year’s crèche), toddlers (4-6 years balwadi) and school-age children (6-12 years non-formal education); preventive and curative healthcare, nutrition, access to health services. Community outreach is an integral strategy adopted at the Centers to reach out, sensitize and communicate through innovative media with the stakeholders there. Daycare Program (at urban settlements): This Model seeks to address multiple needs: care and protection for children, developmental opportunities and childcare options for working mothers. To ensure the quality at the center, caregiver-child ratio norms (one worker per 10-12 children of under 3s and 20-25 children between 3-6 years) is required to maintain. Since teaching learning material plays an important role to sustain the interest of the children as well as worker and making learning more enjoyable and play-way; Mobile Creches provides age appropriate Teaching learning material at intervals to keep the centres functioning and activities conducted. 2. Training: Training interventions with organizations and community women bring new allies into the ECCD movement while creating a skilled workforce to take it forward in its many avatars. We have also been dialoguing with abovementioned state governments to train the child care workers and functionaries for implementation of Government run creches centers provisioned under Re-structured ICDS.
