About This Cause

A BRIEF: ASSOCIATION SAIKORIAN : PROJECT KRUSHI Association Saikorian is the official registered Association of the alumni of Sainik School Korukonda, Vizianagram Dist, Andhra Pradesh. The Alumni of Sainik School Korukonda who having benefited from the excellent all round education at their alma mater, undertook the onerous task of “giving back to the Society” in the form of Project Krushi. Project Krushi is mainly a home for children in difficult circumstances. The project started in the year 1994, was inspired by the first Principal, Cdr (Late) T de Almeida, and was located in rented premises in Begumpet, Hyderabad, with thirteen children. Krushi Home is now located at its own premises, at No. 4-120/2, Gowdavally ( Village ), Medchal (Mandal ) Ranga Reddy District – 501 403 on 2.5 acre land amidst verdant greenery in an aesthetically and ergonomically constructed building which is fully environment friendly with a solar energy plant providing all its power needs and a water recycling plant which enables it to recycle all its waste water. Every effort is made to counsel and restore the children who are brought to Krushi Home to their parents/relatives. Those children who cannot be restored to their parents / relatives, for various reasons, are retained in Krushi Home are provided with a well-kept home, get access to education with the ultimate objective of making them self-sufficient and responsible citizens. The purpose is to get them reintegrated with the main stream of the society (We at Krushi, consciously avoid usage of the term “Street Children”). The effort has been hugely successful with almost all the boys passing out of its portals so far being gainfully employed in decent jobs and with many reaching decent professional and societal status. At present Krushi Home has 105 students who are in the age group of 5 to 20. While schooling is provided at Government Schools in Gowdavally village, the children thereafter proceed to obtain technical diplomas in polytechnic and engineering / pharma or other such professional colleges. This academic year 10 boys wrote SSC examinations and all of them obtained admission in polytechnic colleges in the stream of their choice. The children are provided special coaching and support not only for their regular curriculum but also for entrance tests for polytechnic etc. The coaching is also extended to children of nearby villages which is often well subscribed producing commendable results every year. Krushi campus is endowed with an excellent sports infrastructure which includes a soccer field, a cemented basketball court, volley ball court and enough area for other outdoor sports besides adequate space for indoor games. Krushi campus also has Upaadhi, a center for vocational training which imparts vocational job oriented training to local youth in areas that include computer applications, welding, electrician, plumbing and carpentry etc. Besides managing Krushi Home, the Association also supports 15 government schools in and around for improving the quality of education at both primary and high school levels. The support is given in terms of providing qualified teaching staff with a view to augment the school staff, providing necessary infrastructure, modern teaching aids and material, conducting competitions and special events in science and sports. We also provide health and sanitation education to children and special steps are taken towards the health and wellbeing of girl students. We provided over 20 cycles this academic year to motivate the girls to attend school. Inceptive scholarships are being provided to achievers through cash and kind. The Association is supported mainly by the effort and contribution of its members; besides a few organizations, institutions and individuals who are friends and associates of the members. The Association also runs another project called Campus Challenge through its Vizag Chapter. Campus Challenge is a institution for differently abled children and is located in another self contained campus located about 12 kms from Vizianagram on the Chennai-Kolakata highway. It houses around 100 children who are differently abled with trained staff and mentors and is doing a yeomen service is training and helping them live normal lives.
