Mission Statement
Childhood Enhancement through Training and Action (CHETNA) was founded under Public Charitable Trust under Trust Registration Act in 2002. CHETNA is in operational at 100 places (contact points) in Delhi and its neighboringstates of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, reaching out to 4000 street and working children (SWC) througheight different projects. Contact with children are made by reaching out to their living areas or place of work with ‘alternative education’ and a package of 18 well-crafted activities like education, counseling, recreation, health provision and a framework to get organized
About This Cause
CHETNA was founded on 8thMarch 2002, to undertake the vital work of child empowerment. It is registered as a public charitable trust in Delhi, India. When literally translated from Hindi, CHETNA means ‘creating awareness’ and stands for ‘Childhood Enhancement through Training and Action’ CHETNA considers the best way to develop a society fit for children, is by empowering the most excluded and vulnerable children. CHETNA strongly believes in ensuring basic rights and services to all children, and thus started working on addressing key child rights issues such as survival, protection, development, and participation Since its inception, the CHETNA team has co-developed, with the children, a range of programmes and activities to fit their needs. CHETNA lives its values, so participation is core to the whole organisation in the form of BadhteKadam, a unique federation of street and working children as members. BadhteKadam runs its own fully operational newspaper called Balaknama; the first of its kind in the world
