About This Cause

Founded in Feb 1997, KarmMarg Charitable Society is a care home for disadvantaged, displaced and vulnerable children in rural Faridabad, near Delhi. It had a modest beginning as an outreach program for street kids at the New Delhi railway station. We sustained ourselves by making and selling bags out of old newspapers. Today, KarmMarg runs a fully-fledged licensed residential home under the guidance of it's Board Members and committed Staff. At KarmGaon, as we call it, upto 60 children (aged 4 years onwards), youngsters and children with special needs are given shelter, nutrition, medical care, education, extracurricular activities and counselling along with lots of love and masti. We also taken in rescued or missing children for short term care through the government’s Child Welfare Committee. We provide an individualised Vocational Training program, both in-house and through our network outside, for our youngsters, even those with special needs. After training, they move onto becoming entrepreneurs or to jobs which we help them find. Some join our independent Income Generation program, Jugaad Trust, where we also train and economically empower over 100 local rural women and youth. The revenue generated helps us to meet approximately 30% of our expenses of Karm Marg. Our aim is to try and become more self-sufficient in the coming years. Our vision is to ensure that every child realises his/her full potential, becomes self-reliant and lives a happy life with a sense of dignity. We also work with local government schools for the local community children and youth. We provide a library project for primary school children where around 150 children are enrolled who have access to different story books and informative books. We also conduct Storytelling and Art & Craft workshops simultaneously. A life skill program is also run, for local government senior secondary youth where around 80 adolescents are enrolled with a pool of topics are taken up, which covers peer pressure, life skills, HIV/AIDS, personal hygiene and gender equality.
