We aim to create a violence-free society and to achieve behavioral, social transformation for girls and boys based on equity, peace and justice, where all can enjoy- - Physical and mental freedom - Freedom from gender violence - Equal access of resources and opportunities - Freedom from all sorts of discrimination Our Mission - To empower youth to end gender-based violence and discrimination through creating alternative and creative ways to voice their opinions, integrating them in the process of social development and creating a future which is just and equal for all.
About This Cause
Vikalp Sansthan is a non-profit organization registered in 2004 (under Rajasthan state registration act, 1958) by a group of youth with a steadfast commitment to creating a society free of gender-based violence and discrimination. We are dreaming of an egalitarian society based on equity, peace, and justice. "Vikalp" means an "alternative" and aims to find and enable alternatives to the existing social structure that are marked by discrimination, violence, and unequal access to opportunities for women and girls. Vikalp Sansthan has worked in 510 villages and twelve districts of rural Rajasthan state in India. Vikalp Sansthan has always been focused to bring analytical attitudinal change among youth with the help of adopting four-fold strategies (community awareness, make stakeholders accountable, help women and girl survivors, and advocacy) under which several programs and campaigns 'My Happiness, Engaging Men & boys, learning & Education Centers, My daughter's rights, etc. have been introduced. And resulted in the stoppage of more than 20,000 child marriages, more than 30,000 girls have been re-enrolled and are pursuing their higher education and more than 6,000 survivor women have been legally helped to live violence-free lives. Vikalp Sansthan has been a part of advocating various laws, along with contributing to the formulation of women and girl child policies with the state government. Vikalp Sansthan has built up good networking from the local to state administrative level. Vikalp Sansthan has been a member of GNB, Forum to Engagement, Asia Abortion Rights, Empowerment Institute both at Global and National forums. Currently working with many renowned national and international partners in its mission to end gender inequalities. Vikalp Sansthan's Response in the First Wave Last year when the pandemic out broke and when every single settings got stopped, Vikalp Sansthan had responded most vulnerable community of Mavli, Gogunda and Udaipur Blocks in two phases and named COVID19 Response 1.0 and 2.1 and served total 3000 families with essential groceries kits, 8000 sanitary pads, 8000 soaps, 8000 masks, 2400 foods to stranded migrants and resolved more than 100 violence-based cases. On the basis of survey, it set up 17 learning and education centres with the help of 17 local community-based youth fellows to zero the risk of complete dropout from school, child marriage, child labour and violence. Through these centre Vikalp Sansthan served more than 800 children. Till the date, centres are providing joyful learning and saving them from COVID through spreading awareness through learning and education centres. Vikalp Sansthan’s Immediate Response in Second wave of COVID-19 To Support community in towns and villages of Udaipur, Mavli and Gogunda blocks during lockdown, Vikalp Sansthan took an immediate step which are followings- 1. Vikalp Sansthan’s COVID19 Helpline With an immediate effect Vikalp Sansthan, with the help of the helpline centre team and field team has prepared a list of every single family in each village of Mavli, Gogunda and Udaipur city in which the individual's name and contact number is given. And appointed team to make call to every single family to know their current health, economic and social status, consistently counselling them to get out of COVID19 fear. Not only this, preventive measures are being dictated and pamphlets of such guidelines and precautions are being handed over to every single house and are suggesting not to fear and must make reach to doctors in case of cough, fever and other such diseases. The Vikalp Sansthan has made its helpline a COVID19 helpline these days which are dealing with domestic violence, child marriage. Team members and counsellors are talking to the community, counselling them at the same time, connecting them to the hospitals, and other help if needed. Till date team has directly counselled more than 848 families and young girls, women and men. Vikalp Sansthan’s helpline team has collected information of around 17000 individuals and are counselling them both at physically and virtually levels. 2. Medical Kit Distribution- After knowing the requirements of vulnerable people who even could not get it by self we have taken an initiative to get advice from reputed doctor's team in terms of providing medical safety kits to vulnerable people. We are distributing medical safety kits including masks, soaps, traditional herbal medicine (kadha) and allopathic medicine like Paracetamol Tablets to cure for mild fever, cough and cold and reached out to 3000 families including 20,000 individuals and 800 children in more than 100 villages so far. 3. COVID19 Awareness campaign- Vikalp Sansthan has driven village to village campaign in 100 rural remote areas with the help of community volunteers, local government stakeholders, staff and young fellows and made aware 17000 individuals and 3000 families in vulnerable community about government COVID19 guidelines, safety and precautions, COVID19 test, respect and help COVID19 patients, importance of isolation, government schemes, right facts and information against rumours, Chiranjeevi (government) Health Insurance Scheme and how to use medical safety kits and to get vaccinated to stay away from the virus effects. 4. Advocacy with rural and urban Administration: In another initiative of Vikalp Sansthan, we immediately met government officials, Chief Medical Health Officer, Deputy Director Ayurveda Department, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Block Development Officers, and Sarpanch both at District, Blocks and Panchayats level and appealed for their cooperation who agreed to provide assistance standing shoulder to shoulder in such a crisis. 5. Organizing Zoom Calls: In times of lockdown Vikalp Sansthan initiated to organize regular zoom calls meetings with staff members and Fellows with the aim to get connected and bring smiles on each face in times of stress and anxiety, to keep updated with family, relatives and community people's current situation, to prepare plans and strategies to respond each family in much better and easiest way. In collaboration of South Asia Women’s Fund, Vikalp Sansthan had organised an awareness call for team and fellows with an eminent Dr Subra. She talked about CORONA chain, myths of vaccine, immunization in best way using best practices at home and she put focus on use of 3 layers mask which is one of the best tools to prevent corona virus and its transmission from one to another. 6. Domestic violence and child marriage cases- Vikalp Sansthan has already experienced through Vikalp Sansthan helpline centre that during lockdown domestic violence cases gets increased and the challenges that we had to face are like police gets busy in COVID works and that is why do not give much times on such cases, survivor women could not reach to our helpline centre physically while on phone calls, sometimes several survivor women called us for essential groceries as they could not have meal for a time. So, even in such a situation our Helpline team extend their supports to such survivors by reaching at their door to help out. In the second wave of pandemic we have received 30 cases in the month of April - May 2021 which includes 10 child marriages case, 10 domestic violence, 2 property dispute, 2 cybercrime, 1 for shelter home and 3 others cases and are working on it to get resolved. Our Helpline team is also actively taken follow ups of all the 500 old cases of survivor women and girls during the pandemic and new their current status. Way Forward: COVID19 Response 3.2 On the basis of COVID19 Response 3.1’s experiences we are moving forward to help vulnerable as per needs and that is why there is an immediate need of groceries kits and other support to vulnerable people like- migrant people, single women, old age people, people with disabilities, orphan children, pregnant women, post-delivery women, young married girls and adolescent girls. Vikalp Santhan have targeted to reach to 2000 most vulnerable families with essential groceries kits, 5000 Herbal Medicine Kits, 10000 Masks, 5000 Soaps, 200 Sanitizers, 5000 Sanitary Pads, 2000 Nutrition packet for children, 300 Nutrition kits for pregnant and post-delivery women, 20 oxi meters, 20 infrared thermometers.
