Mission Statement
Kriti Trust is a not for profit organisation working with women and children in Hyderabad slums. We are passionate about ensuring all children get an opportunity to complete schooling and provide financial assistance to children who are at risk of dropping out of school. We also help manage some of the government schools. We also strongly believe in gender equality and promote that through gender sensitisation workshops for women, skills training to enable them to become economically self reliant. We have also formed a number of self help groups where women meet and collect savings and are able to avail low interest loans from the government that helps them start small income generation activities. We have formed a number of production groups where women who have learnt tailoring and hand embroidery at our centers, make beautiful ethnic products that we help them market.
About This Cause
Kriti Social Initiatives (Kriti) is a not for profit organization working in the Filmnagar slums in Hyderabad since August 2009. Kriti was started by professionals from the corporate sector who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of urban slum dwellers. The Film Nagar slum and Tolichowki area have large slums in the heart of the city. We strongly believe that working with the women will help improve the whole families well being. We are working on women centric issues – livelihoods for women, education of children and gender issues. We have worked on a number of different projects since the time we started the organization in August 2009 covering areas in health care, financial literacy, health education, immunization, conducting drives to ensure children don’t drop out of school, day care centers to enable women to go out and work, skills training and business training for women and a few others. Currently we have two primary project areas: 1 . Livelihoods for women: We help women to find livelihoods close to their homes that allows them to earn income in a safe environment while also balancing family time. We provide work to over 50 women through tailoring, hand embroidery or making paper bags. We make a range of ethnic and eco-friendly products including an entire range of women's wear, jute and cloth bags, home linen, Corporate gifting items etc. Learn more about the project and see the range of products - www.kriti-kala.com 2 . Children's Education: We have several projects related to education of children: a) Scholarships for children: We support the education of close to 400 children from needy families and also provide mentoring to the children and the mothers. b) Government School Project: Working with around 10 Government Schools and providing teacher support, sports teachers, infrastructure support, Stationery and other items required for proper education of children c) Pre-primary Education: Educating children in the 3-5 year range at Anganwadi centers and providing school readiness training along with holistic development of the child. d) Computer Literacy Center: Offering Computer literacy training for all above 10 years.
