State running out of beds: Recent reports were indicated that with in Telangana State, Hyderabad city is fast running out of beds for Covid19 patients. The state-owned Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad has again been declared a dedicated hospital for critical and terminally ill COVID patients, the decision coming the day after about 150 serious cases arrived in hospitals on the night of April 15th. Meanwhile, in view of the rapid surge of COVID-19 patient load, state-run Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad here suspended accepting non- COVID-19 cases and outpatient services with immediate effect. "Therefore Heads of Departments and faculty hereby are instructed not to admit non-COVID cases, but emergency and terminally ill patients should be stabilized and then transferred," an official note said. Even the patients now undergoing treatment at the respective wards should be cleared at the earliest and all the beds in the hospital should be made available for COVID-19 patients, The deteriorating situation on Friday 16th was such that the 10,279 COVID patients admitted to various government and private hospitals. As per a report published in a newspaper a fear expressed by Health department officials that the healthcare infrastructure may not be able to cope with the rush of COVID patients where as many private hospitals too began reporting that their COVID wards were full. A per the government release official data on 16th April , the total number of beds available for COVID patients ,both in government and private sector is nearly 27,775. In Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad, the rush for admission was such that the only 249 IUC beds available for COVID patients were filled as on 16th April. Dr G. Srinivas Rao, Telangana’s Director of Public Health warns, “If we leave the situation to fester, there is a risk that Telangana will become another Maharashtra. If COVID cases continue to rise at this rate, the state government’s attempts to add hospital beds will not be enough. The people of Telangana must rise to the occasion and adopt all preventive measures, at any cost.” Need for Isolation Centre: Given the challenging situation Seva Bharathi, Telangana is setting up a 200 beds isolation centre at RVK school , Pocharam Mandal, Hyderabad with all the required medical and non medical support.
