Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve the health of millions of people worldwide; we focus on global epidemics and pandemics, particularly of chronic diseases affecting vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. We change the traditional ways of treating non-communicable diseases, providing the best evidence to guide critical health decisions, and harnessing the power of governments, markets and communities to improve population health and enact real change. We aim to highlight our research thought leadership to key stakeholders as well as look for ways to support game changing entrepreneurship. The Institute is an independent global medical and public health research institute established and headquartered in Sydney, with major centres in China, India and the UK, and an international network of experts and collaborators.

About This Cause

The George Institute is pioneering improved treatments, better care, technologies and services to reduce the huge burden of Non-Communicable Diseases in India. We are addressing major health issues affecting the Indian population and health systems by translating research outcomes into policy, practice and providing policy makers with effective, high impact and evidence based recommendations to tackle infections, chronic conditions and neglected health conditions. The major public health issues we focus are – • Primary Health Care • Women’s and girl’s health • Digital health & health systems • Trauma, intentional and unintentional injury • Universal health coverage • Emerging threats to human health – climate change, COVID 19 Our work primarily includes – i. Developing new strategies to prevent and treat chronic diseases ii. Strengthening primary health care - skilling front line health workers, bridging the gaps in health care delivery, prevention strategies at community level iii. Addressing women and girl’s health - gender equity, women cancers, high risk pregnancies iv. Reducing the burden of injury v. Helping to improve health service quality, accessibility and affordability in rural/urban settings vi. Helping to improve community healthcare and health systems through digital health interventions In last one decade we’ve have implemented numerous projects aiming at both the people in need of care and the institutions delivering this care at national and state level, and in the private and public sector. We work with 300,000 people across 20 states and 45 districts and key stakeholders of India in public health, research and implementation. Our teams are directly influencing policy and practice by engaging with the central and state governments, civil society organizations, communities and multilateral organizations such as the WHO and the UN.
