Mission Statement

The mission of the Knocknaheeny Hollyhill Youth Project is to provide a forum for the community at large to meet and develop healthy food options and health promotion projects, provide training opportunities for members of the community and enable young people in the Knocknaheeny/Hollyhill and sourriounding area to reject crime and develop as responsible citizens within their own community. This will be achieved by facilitating the community with programmes in a safe and friendly building which offer them creative opportunities to overcome existing obstacles and to develop and express their full potential. The Project represents a collaborative endeavour between the local community and other statutory and voluntary agencies.

About This Cause

Our aims and objectives are: To provide facilities for coordinated integrated programmes for young people. To facilitate and encourage unemployed peoples’ access to employment opportunities through training and development. To provide healthy food options to the wider community. To promote health and social gain programmes. To incorporate a network of family support services and act as a base for community groups which cater for the large population of the area. To provide services for the local community including outreach programmes, parent and child help, community groups addressing important issues of the locality such as unemployment and the environment and a venue for the local community based activities. (a) To establish, promote and operate training schemes, workshops and the like and generally to provide training services and courses on subjects relating to industrial training, commercial training and education and to provide a research and information service to the unemployed and young people of the area aforementioned and generally to promote, foster and encourage schemes of every nature for their benefit and welfare. (b) To lease, hire or otherwise acquire premises and to develop same in co-operation with the Educational Training Board , Cork City Council , the Health Service Executive , Department of Social Protection and the Department of Justice. (c) To develop and co-ordinate community projects for people residing in the Knocknaheeny, Hollyhill and the surrounding areas of the City of Cork. (d) To provide for the acquisition and dissemination of useful knowledge, to offer facilities to exchange ideas and acquaint themselves more fully with such social, economic, commercial and industrial affairs and to consider all questions in connection with such affairs. (e) To support a drug and alcohol service funded by the HSE. (f)To raise funds and help raise funds for any charitable purpose. (G)To provide places and facilities for curricular and extracurricular activities for pupils of the School of the Parish & Terence McSwiney Community College
