Mission Statement

The Foundation's mission is to make cancer less frightening by enlightening and our aim is to live in a world free from the fear of cancer. Today, the Marie Keating Foundation is one of the leading voices in Ireland for cancer prevention, awareness and support. We are committed to being there for people diagnosed with cancer, and their families at every step of this cancer journey, and our services reflect that. Through our information and support services, we reach thousands of people a year, giving education, information and advice focused on cancer prevention and early detection, as well as providing support services and financial assistance to those living with and beyond cancer.

About This Cause

Since its foundation in 1999, each year, the compassionate and expert nursing team at the Marie Keating Foundation continue to reach thousands of people with the information they need to live healthier lives to reduce their risk of cancer; to know how to spot the signs and symptoms of cancer early and to take action and get the help they need; and for those with the toughest diagnosis, how to live their best lives. Reaching deep into communities across Ireland, these services are freely available and easily accessible. With little or no Government funding, the Foundation relies almost entirely on the generosity of kind members of the public. Our specialist nurses on our Mobile Information Service provide free cancer information and advice and have reached over half a million people in 10,000 venues, towns, businesses, and communities across Ireland focusing particularly on deprived areas. Starting in 2013, our Schools Cancer Awareness Programme has now educated over 200,000 students at over 1,800 secondary schools. Our Comfort Fund has given grants to over 5,300 families suffering financially because of a cancer diagnosis. Each year our Survive and Thrive programme helps cancer survivors readjust to life after treatment. And our Positive Living Group supports people living with metastatic cancer live their best lives through both in-person and online meetings. Medical research tells us that prevention through lifestyle changes and early detection saves lives. The compassion of our supporters makes it possible for the dedicated team at the Marie Keating Foundation to be there at every step for people affected by cancer when they need us, keeping loved ones together for longer.
