Mission Statement
Established in 2003, Plan Ireland is a child-centered development and humanitarian organisation. Part of Plan International, it is an independent, not for profit organisation without political agenda or religious orientation. Founded 86 years ago, Plan International is one of the oldest and largest children’s development and humanitarian organisations in the world. Plan works in 55 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions of children and their communities out of poverty. By actively involving children and working at a grassroots level we unite and inspire people across the globe to transform the lives of children. Last year, Plan International partnered with more than 39,607 organisations in 78 countries, reaching 26.1 million girls and 24 million boys through our work. Our ambition is simple but powerful: to improve the lives of children.
About This Cause
Plan strives for a just world that advances children's rights and equality for girls. We empower children, young people and communities to make the vital changes that tackle the root causes of discrimination against girls, exclusion and vulnerability. Through a direct grassroots approach, Plan supports the efforts of children, communities and local organisations to give children access to education, health services, a safe environment, clean water and sanitation, secure family income and participation in decision making. We promote free, equal access to quality education for all children – from early learning to secondary education. We work with communities, families, schools and governments to protect children from harm. We enable vulnerable children to understand and defend their rights and encourage them to join the girls’ rights movement. We increase access to quality sexual health services and eliminate harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and early and child marriage. We help vulnerable and excluded children, particularly girls, grow up equally valued and cared for and free from discrimination. We increase young people’s access to financial services, financial literacy and entrepreneurship and employment skills training. We build communities’ resilience and support children’s right to dignity and protection before, during and after disasters and conflicts.
