About This Cause

DYP is a registered charity CHY 15594 Reg. 291455. Donnycarney Youth Project (DYP) was established in 1984. Originally, DYP was formed as a youth service serving young people between the ages of 10 – 24. Since then, the organisation has expanded its core services to include a Drug and Alcohol Project, Family and Child Service, Community Employment Programme and a Garda Youth Diversion Programme (GDYP). DYP is committed to providing a non-judgemental service for the local community in response to the changing needs of young people, family members and those affected by drug and alcohol use. DYP employs professionally qualified personnel to work directly with young people, families and service users. The Youth Project and Youth Justice strands target young people who live in difficult circumstances, those affected by social issues such as addiction, domestic violence, unemployment, poverty, homelessness, mental health, poor parental support, family separation, bereavement, and those who are at risk or drug use and involvement in crime as well as young people who present with behavioural issues due to previous trauma encountered in their lives. The Drug & Alcohol strand provides a service for all drug or alcohol users regardless of their addiction of choice. The drug team support individuals in their journey towards a drug/alcohol free lifestyle. We continue to address and reduce the impact of drug/alcohol use in the Dublin North EastArea. The Family & Child Service strand supports the whole family with the child at the centre. The majority of funding is spent on salaries and each year DYP struggles to role out new innovative programmes on a very limited budget. While the staff of DYP are creative, and use a variety of skills when delivering programmes at times, specialist skills such as that of a music teacher, canoe instructor, rock climbing instructors, and play therapist, to name a few are required. In addition specialist training for example, in Trauma Recovery Model, and Child to Parent Violence can be difficult to run due to training costs. Any additional funding received would be very welcome and assist DYP to continue to provide the best service possible to meet the ever emerging needs of the young people, families, and service users within our community
