Mission Statement

The Irish Heritage Trust protects and brings to life Irish heritage properties for the benefit of society.

About This Cause

The ethos of the Irish Heritage Trust, which was launched in July 2006, is to care for special places in a way that also delivers real benefit to people and the country. The fundamentals for this approach are place, people and participation. The Trust took responsibility for Fota House in December 2007; today the property is thriving, requires no annual revenue funding from the state, has received tremendous public and private support and is alive with volunteers and visitors. In 2015 the Trust is moving into a new phase of its development that coincides with wider economic recovery. We took responsibility for Strokestown Park and the Irish National Famine Museum on 1st August. There is currently no public funding involved in this project and it will receive significant financial support given personally by some Directors of the Westward Board. The Trust has 10 years of private support to allow us find a sustainable solution for this special place. We have been appointed by Teagasc to assist with the development of Johnstown Castle, Wexford over the next two years and then operate it for seven years. We are also working to bring No.11 Parnell Square back to life. It is currently a redundant historic building that could contribute hugely to the cultural regeneration strategy for Parnell Square and become financially sustainable. After 9 years of hard work we have proved that the Trust can not only protect our heritage but also create a financially sustainable solution to bring a property to life for visitors and benefit to the local community.
