About This Cause

As you know Saint Joseph’s Shankill is dedicated to the care of people living with dementia and their families. We are the largest care home in Ireland specialising solely in dementia care. We provide a home from home for people at all stages of dementia; from early stage to palliative end of life care. Currently, we offer residential care for 60 residents and support 2 people in respite care weekly and we provide a day care service with 120 places per week for people in the local community with a diagnosis of dementia. People live as a family in one of our 6 'homes' or ‘Lodges’ where they are cared for, in surroundings that as far as possible, are welcoming and home-like. People at the same stage of dementia, live together in their Lodge, this leads to meaningful social interaction, friendships, staff understanding and knowledge of each person's specific needs. We have worked very hard in Saint Joseph’s to create a culture and environment that meets the very specific physical, emotional, psychological and social needs of people living with dementia. We know that what we are doing in Saint Joseph’s is working, we can feel it, we can see it, and we can prove it. We are delivering world class dementia care. Saint Joseph’s already offers support in many ways as people and their loved ones come to terms with their diagnosis and what may manifest as a result of their illness. We are committed to a message of hope, and supporting quality of life for each person. Even when someone can no longer live at home and needs fulltime care, does not mean that the things that are important to that person should be forgotten, people still need to feel like they are needed and that they still matter.
