The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle aims to raise funds funds for worthy causes through an enjoyable and safe cycle experience for all involved.

About This Cause

The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle (ROKCC) is a not-for-profit organisation which raises funds annually for a broad range of charities which benefit the people of Kerry. The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle has grown to become one of the most iconic and successful one day charity fundraising events in Ireland, generating more than €12 million over the last five years. The event takes place on the first Saturday of July each year. In 2019, the date if July 6th. From humble beginning in 1983 when a small group of people from Killarney hatched the idea to set off on a cycle around one of Ireland’s most iconic routes – the 170km Ring of Kerry – to present day where the event attracts more than 8,000 participants and fundraisers on the first Saturday of July. Volunteers are core to the event, without them the event simply could not happen. More than 1200 people give their time to ensuring the event is safe, memorable and successful. Event support ranges and includes 19 ambulances, 3 food stations, 11 bike repair stations, 11 water stations, 14 remote first aid stations, 18 sweeps, hundreds of stewards and cycle marshals, The legacy from the concept has its footprint throughout the county of Kerry, from nursing homes to hospice units to community playgrounds. Community volunteers are at the core of the event and their goodwill and spirit make it a truly unique experience for all involved. Cyclists are met with a unique Kerry ‘cead mile failte’ in towns, villages, townlands and byroads of the route. The ROKCC support local initiatives and help groups to generate awareness of their cause while fast tracking completion of projects to realise their ambitions. The funds raised through the ROKCC support community projects which aim to improve the quality of life for individuals, families and/or communities. The aim of the ROKCC is to ensure that the event continues to attract supporters to participate and raise funds for worthy causes. The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle is a charity cycle for leisure cyclists to enjoy one of Ireland’s most iconic routes along with Wild Atlantic Way. The route includes some key heritage locations such as views to the Skelligs, Derrynane, Caherciveen, Molls Gap, Ladies View. The event is run over 2 days. The New Street car park in Killarney becomes the base and hub of activity for the ROKCC on the Friday and Saturday of the ROKCC weekend. Day 1: Registration whereby all participants must collect a bike tag and confirm participation. Exhibition area, entertainment etc is also running at this venue. Day 2: Cycle itself The start and finish line is in Killarney. An official start takes places around 7.00am and cyclists follow the route, where food, support and entertainment is provided. Official food stations are in Caherciveen, Kenmare and Killarney, Water stations are dotted along the route. Music, dancing and cheering is provided by a number of locals. Medical crews, mechanical and support crews are also located located in various locations along the route. All in all over 1200 volunteers are in place during the weekend. The finish line in Killarney has a stage with MC and music, food stands, a bar etc. are also in the car park for cyclists and their families to celebrate their achievement.
