Mission Statement
About Us: Youth Work Ireland Cork (YWIC) is a charitable youth organization based primarily in the Gurranabraher/Churchfield on the north side of Cork city Ireland. YWIC manages five projects; Special Project for Youth (SPY-Special Projects for Youth - Sports Programmes, Mental Health Workshops, Cyber Café Youth Groups, Refugee Programmes, Homework Club); Arts & Music Project (Rapping Group, Music Lessons, Art Workshops and groups); Cork Local Drugs Task Force (Outreach addiction services, one to one counselling, care plans, family supports programmes, treatment centre referrals); UpCork LGBT+ Youth Group (LGBTI+ Support group; the only group of its kind in Cork City). and a Local Training Initiative (LTI) FETAC Level 4 Arts & Creativity Course for early school leavers and students who did not get a college place after leaving certificate. This course is the equivelant of a leaving certificate so enables students to progress to third level education after completion. Youth Work Ireland also has its own Leadership Programme.
About This Cause
Youth Work Ireland Cork targets young people who are not involved in any youth services and may be experiencing social exclusion. Young people aged between 7 and 25 years who are ‘at risk ‘ of early school leaving, alcohol/drug abuse and are at a disadvantage from fully engaging with life chances and life opportunities. All young people are welcome, there are over 600 young people currently attending the youth service. Referrals come from schools, parents, Gardai, word of mouth and inter agency groups. If groups have reached their full capacity and there isn’t an available place, then the young persons name is put on a waiting list. In order to provide a quality and an effective youth service building good relationships with young people and parents is important, also it is vital to work collaboratively with other agencies in areas such health, education justice and community.
