Mission Statement

Muintir Chronain established in 1972 is a community based voluntary organisation, situated since 1990 in Áras Chrónáin Ionad Cultúir, Cluain Dolcáin, B.Á.C. 22, D22X856. Our core aim is the promoting the Irish Language, Education, Music, Dancing, Irish Culture and Arts as a vibrant active part of life. This is done through the wide range of services and activities (educational & social) we provide through our headquarters , Aras Chronain, Ionad Cultuir (Irish Cultural Center) and the many partnership projects with local, national and international organisations and community groups.

About This Cause

Muintir Chronain is a community based, not-for-profit, social enterprise whose core aim is the promotion and preservation of the Irish Language and all aspects of Irish Culture in modern day life. Muintir Chronain established in 1972 is situated since 1990 in Aras Chronain Ionad Cultuir, Cluain Dolcáin, B.Á.C. 22, promoting the Irish Language, Education, Music, Dancing, Irish Culture and Arts as a vibrant active part of life. Muintir Chronain is managed by a Board of Directors/Trustees. Through its monthly meetings, it oversees all aspects of the organisation’s activities, manages the finances and ensures that decisions it takes are implemented to an agreed timeframe and budget. Muintir Chronain are register with: • The Register of Companies (CRO) – MUINTIR CHRONAIN CUIDEACHTA FAOI THEORAINN RATHAIOCHTA (128336) • Charities Regulatory Authority Number: 20020583 / CHY8400 • South Dublin County PPN 0095 Muintir Chronain has two full-time, 2 part-time employees and 3 CE Community Scheme participants employed in the daily running of Aras Chronain Ionad Cultuir and the activities of Muintir Chronain. The Members of Muintir Chronain, on a voluntary basis, are involved in the organising of activities of Muintir Chrónáin and Áras Chrónáin. Aras Chronain Ionad Cultuir has developed into a distinct and valuable community, cultural and arts asset that is used by many voluntary and community groups and organisations of the greater Clondalkin and South Dublin County area. Muintir Chronain began back in the mid 1960’s when a group of likeminded people came together to set up an All-Irish Language primary school in the Clondalkin area. Today Muintir Chronain have been directly involved in the establishment of 2 All-Irish Preschools (Naíonra), 3 All-Irish Primary Schools (Gaelscoil) and 1 All-Irish Second Level School in the Clondalkin area. In the 1980’s Muintir Chronain decided to establish their own centre. In 1989 after years of fund-raising purchased Orchard House (built 1835) and renamed it Aras Chronain, Ionad Cultuir, promoting the Irish Language, Education, Music, Culture and Arts as a vibrant active part of life. Aras Chronain has developed into a distinct and valuable community, asset that is used by many voluntary and community groups and organisations in the greater Clondalkin and South County Dublin area. Aras Chronain Ionad Cultuir is open, functioning and providing invaluable Irish Language, Arts, Cultural & Heritage, Performance, Meeting, and Events facilities to community and voluntary sector of the greater Clondalkin and South Dublin County communities for over 30 years. There are no other such arts performance facilities, public event and meeting space in the wider Clondalkin area for general community use. Aras Chronain is used by over 60 groups annually (see attached), hosting a wide range of inclusive creative, social and educational activities 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year for the whole community. Aras Chronain won the Pride of Place Awards 2018 – Creative Initiative Place. We also organised & hosted over 60 outdoor events for the public & families during Covid restrictions. Aras Chronain, hosting over 60 community groups annually, an 1840 Georgian building.
