Mission Statement
Our Mission: “To provide a quality accessible and low cost professional counselling service that meets the on-going needs of the community.”
About This Cause
Northside Counselling Service (NCS) is a professional voluntary and community based counselling service and training centre. Operating now for over thirty years Northside Counselling Service continues to provide an essential and professional counselling service and training school. Northside Counselling Service is a non profit organisation. Counselling is delivered by professional counsellors who volunteer their time to the service. The cost of private counselling is often far too expensive for the majority of those living in our community. We provide weekly counselling sessions delivered by professional accredited or pre-accredited counsellors. Through this we initially provide a supportive space and structure for our clients, which enables them to participate at a level that meets their mental and emotional needs. Within this we look to provide our clients with coping and problem solving skills appropriate to their individual context, thus building their capacity to deal with present and future situations. Although we do not work directly with people who are dealing with a current addiction - we do work with people who are in recovery. We have and continue to work and support the carers, family members and supporters of those who are currently dealing with addiction; this would form a large part of our work. We are very accessible, local and well thought of within the community - this allows many clients to attend our service where otherwise they may not have the confidence or ability to go elsewhere. This means we provide an early intervention service to many people who might not otherwise look for support and who would otherwise end up in crisis and therefore need more intensive, long-term support from statutory addiction, mental health or social services. We are very often a first point of call thereby allowing us to deal directly with the vast majority of clients presenting while at the same time supporting and signposting those clients who need a different level of care to the appropriate service. This also ensures that people at potential risk of harm can have their needs met.
