About This Cause

The Ethos of Aiseiri/ Aislinn can be defined as the beliefs, values and principles that are at the heart of all that we do and underpin the therapeutic work that promotes recovery from addiction. WELCOMING, RELATIONAL, THERAPEUTIC, SPIRITUAL,TRANSFORMATIVE Welcoming In all of our centres we strive to create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming. From the first phone call or knock on the door all persons should feel that they are valued. Hospitality is a priority. In so far as possible, food is prepared, cooked and served lovingly. The physical environment aims to cultivate an atmosphere of comfort, ease and beauty. Rooms are bright and warm. Gardens are well tended and endowed with meaning that complements the aspirations of Aiseiri/ Aislinn. Relational We understand the importance of relationships in promoting recovery from addiction. We seek to develop a person centred approach that values each individual, regardless of background or status. The respect and dignity due to every resident is conveyed through relationships that are caring, compassionate and concerned with the welfare of the individual. Positive relationships also envisage mutual responsibility and accountability for actions. Therapeutic We offer a therapeutic programme that is in accordance with best practice and is based on the 12 Step Programme. We do this in an environment that is safe, physically and psychologically. In addition, we aspire to attend to the needs of our residents in a holistic way. To the extent that is possible, their physical, intellectual, emotional and psychological needs are addressed. Their recovery continues to be promoted, through aftercare, family programmes and the AA Fellowship. Their planned reintegration into society takes into account individual health, education and employment needs. Links to available external mental health and addiction programmes are encouraged. Spiritual A spiritual ethos was central to the founding vision of the organisation and is at the heart of the Aiseiri/Aislinn service. Attention to the spiritual dimension of human existence acknowledges the transcendent meaning in our lives and informs our search to live well together as human beings. The spiritual dimension is nurtured through, for example, putting a value on individual belief systems, providing opportunities for special rituals, creativity, stillness, mindfulness and appreciation of the beauties of nature. Transformative The primary objective of the Aiseiri/Aislinn treatment programme is to transform the lives of the participants and the lives of their families and friends, through recovery from addiction. This objective places us alongside all those who strive to create a better world through personal and social change. Persons with addictions can feel isolated, maginalised, disempowered and discriminated against. In trying to promote a more just society we commit ourselves, through our programme, to empowerment, equality and capacity-building.
