About This Cause

The Association was formed in 1987. The Region extends from Faggot Hill on the East, to the Lee Road on the South and West beyond Kerry Pike Village towards Tower. As per the 2016 Census, the Region had a population of c.1700, but since 2016, there has been a substantial amount of new houses built & occupied (Mitchell’s Court & Clonlara developments c.170 new houses) with a number of other developments recently commenced and others having obtained Planning Permission. There is also a significant area of Zoned Land within the Region where further development is planned in the not too distant future. Over the years the Association has been actively responsible for many improvements in the Area and has a strong track record of completing projects on time and within budget and has built up good working relationships with Leader Group, Cork County Council and more recently Cork City Council since the Area moved into the City Municipal in May 2019. • The Community Field subsequently leased to the Local GAA Club has been given a major facelift; it has been fully drained, resurfaced and maintained to national standards. • In 2011 a Community Tree Planting and Amenity Development Project was completed. 132 trees and 76 shrubs were planted along the Roadways and Walkways of Clogheen Kerry Pike. • A New Entrance, Stone Walls & Gates were provided to the Community Field now known as Ballycannon Park. • A new Walkway around the perimeter of the pitch has been developed and enjoys high levels of usage. Many plants and shrubs have been planted along the Walkway adding to the enjoyment of people using the facility. • 8 pieces of Outdoor Gym Equipment were added in 2014. • Substantial improvements were carried out in the Old National Primary School in Kerry Pike Village which is now known as the Community Centre. • A new Maple Floor was installed in 2016 which has proven to be a major benefit to many of the users of the Centre in particular the Karate Club and Irish Dancing Classes. • Our Environmental sub-committee organise local litter collections on a voluntary basis from Spring to Autumn on a sub area by sub area covering the entire Community. • The Association host a very popular Mid-summer Community Barbeque and Field Festival. • In November 2020 the old Tennis Courts were resurfaced with a Tiger Turf Multi Use Games Area surface suitable for Tennis, Basketball, Football & Bowles. Given the amount of recent development in the Area and the development planned in the near future it is vital that proper infrastructure is in place. The Community of Clogheen and Kerry Pike wish to ensure that the Area is developed and maintained as an Independent Village and that adequate services & infrastructure are constructed and provided for the local residents and the Community Association's aim is to strive for this to happen.
