Mission Statement

Respond will play an enhanced role in effectively addressing the specific housing and homelessness crisis in Ireland by expanding and improving the housing services that we provide. We will significantly increase our housing stock, all the while seeking to maintain our focus on the alleviation of poverty. Respond estates will be well-designed, vibrant communities with new developments prioritising mixed tenure to ensure true social integration and inclusion. We will strive to contribute to an Ireland where everyone can have a home to call their own and where individuals, families and communities are empowered to reach their full potential.

About This Cause

Respond have been working all around Ireland for over 40 years. We are one of the largest not‐for‐profit Approved Housing Bodies (AHB) and service providers in the country. Respond began in Waterford in 1982, working to provide meaningful solutions to housing insecurity and homelessness with a particular focus on social inclusion, personal dignity and sustainable communities. Since then Respond has continued this work nationally, tackling the ongoing housing crisis and supporting communities by providing high quality homes and key support services to people and families at risk. About our Work Our vision is an Ireland where everyone can have a home to call their own and where individuals, families and communities are empowered to reach their full potential. • As an Approved Housing Body (AHB) working with Local Authorities, we provide social and affordable housing in sustainable communities for people who need it. • To address family homelessness, we run six Family Homelessness Services providing emergency accommodation with 24/7 support services. This involves support in accessing permanent housing, mental and physical health services, family/parenting support and a range of other supports. • Day Care Services for Older People : Supporting older people to remain living independently in their own homes & communities for as long as possible. We provide three services, two Dublin in and one in Cork and include facilitate social, recreational, health and therapeutic supports on an individual, client-centred basis. • Early Learning and School Age Care : Our vision is that every child knows their value and discovers their magic. We provide pre-school, after school and full day care services for children aged -12 years. • Family Support : Our focus in the Family Support team is to support families and individuals to maximise their well-being. We provide a range of brief intervention programmes including parent support groups, homework club, parent and toddler groups, healthy eating programmes and horticulture programmes. • Refugee Resettlement Services : Providing a welcoming, safe haven for families and children who have been forced to leave their homes. We support to integration into local communities based on need including support to access basic social welfare, education, employment and language classes. We work in partnership with the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, Local Authorities, the Health Service Executive, Housing Finance Agency, Dublin Regional Homeless Executive, Pobal and others, along with our sectoral colleagues. We employ over 350 dedicated and experienced staff. We directly employ an in-house multi-disciplinary development team made up of architects, planners, quantity surveyors and clerk of works who continually work on delivering new homes for people across Ireland. We also have considerable expertise across our housing and services teams supporting people on a day to day basis and with more specific and complex needs. We are currently working towards becoming a trauma informed organisation.
