Mission Statement

Aidlink exists to improve the lives of those living in poverty in Africa.

About This Cause

Aidlink is an Irish NGO working in Kenya, Uganda and Ghana through a partnership model. We work with African NGOs to build their capacity, and that of targeted communities, to become empowered, independent leaders in the sustainable development of their own communities. Aidlink works side-by-side with local partners in the poorest and most excluded communities in the world, who are now on the front lines of climate change: the nomadic pastoralist Turkana and Masai in Kenya and the Karamajong in Uganda. In our work supporting our partner’s development projects in education, water and sanitation, and agricultural livelihoods, Aidlink remains committed to promoting child rights, particularly those of the girl child, combating climate change, and mobilising communities for effective change. Our projects target children, but the impact ripples throughout families and communities. We use schools as our foundation to branch out into communities. By improving school facilities, cultivating school farms, training staff, parents, Board of Management’s and Water User Committees, we mobilise communities to ensure a sustainable dimension to our project outcomes that will live on in communities. Aidlink's work also includes a strong development education component, whereby we work in schools in Ireland to raise awareness for the cases and impact of global poverty to foster solidarity. Education is at the heart of Aidlink’s work in Africa and Ireland. Our unique, education-based Immersion programme, which offers Irish students the opportunity to attend school in Africa, links lives and connects communities across the globe. This works mobilises young people in Ireland to support a global, social justice-orientated agenda that advances the interests of people in the poorest communities in Africa and elsewhere in the world.
