Mission Statement
Cork Simon Community works in solidarity with men and women who are homeless in Cork, offering housing and support in their journey back to independent or supported living. Cork Simon supports over 1,000 people annually, providing accommodation, access to health services, housing support, training and employment opportunities to enable people to move out of homelessness.
About This Cause
For over 50 years, Cork Simon Community has adapted and changed to meet the needs of men and women who are homeless in Cork, Kerry and the South East. Cork Simon Community is dedicated to supporting men and women to rebuild their lives and leave a life homelessness behind. Your support can help to change and save someone's life. On average Cork Simon supports 75 people each night at the Anderson's Quay Emergency Shelter. With homeless figures at the highest ever and the figures recorded don't include rough sleepers. Our Outreach team works hard to keep in contact with men and women who have no other option but to sleep on the streets, they make sure they are ok, and encourage them to use the day services in Anderson Quay. The Day Centre run to support men and women who are sleeping rough and provides access to the Adult Homeless Multi-disciplinary Team – a team of doctors, nurses and counsellors working specifically to address the complex health needs of people who are homeless. We can only continue this work because you care. You care about the men and women experiencing homelessness and understand the challenges we face as the numbers grow. A further fifty-two people live in five high-support houses – termed high-support because people living there have a complex range of health and related needs that require round-the-clock care. A further twenty-seven people are supported in returning to independent-living in Cork Simon flats throughout the city – people who have survived homelessness and are on track to rebuilding their lives. That’s 127 beds every night. In September 2024 Cork Simon housed it’s 100th individual through the Housing First Programme, where Cork Simon supports men and women into long term housing and continues to support them to keep their tenancies to leave homelessness behind them. For some – particularly those with complex health conditions and addictions, it can be a long journey. It’s important to remember that none of our services are fully funded. Without the commitment of supporters like you, these achievements would not have been possible. Together, we can make an even greater difference for those in need.
