Mission Statement
Childrens group link is a special project for youth working in the heart of Waterford City providing a range of programmes, activities and services to children, young people, their families and the wider community. Our primary objective is to support young people from disadvantaged areas and those marginalised or unattached. We are currently working with approximately 100 young people who's ages range from 7 to 24 years. Activities include homework and breakfast clubs, sports, outdoor pursuits and creative events. Group Link also engage young people in specialist programmes including those associated with mental health, personal development and soft skills training. Young people also get opportunities to participate in social enterprise initiatives and mini film productions. Our members are also encouraged to remain on as volunteer leaders as they grow older. Our premises which is owned by the organisation is located in the centre of Waterford City.

CHILDRENS GROUP LINK – SUMMARY PROFILE Childrens Group Link was established in 1979 to address social disadvantage of children, teenagers and their families within Waterford City and its environs. We provide recreational, educational, artistic, counselling and sporting programmes, services and opportunities to marginalised youth. Our current membership of 90 consists of children as young as seven up to young adults aged 20 years. Our purpose is to assist in the development of our members by creating a positive environment for those in our care and help them to express themselves in an open and secure way. We strive to achieve these goals through clearly defined methods and objectives which meet the needs of young people. We do this by providing positive safe experiences both physical & emotional; offering education & career supports and allowing young people to have fun & enjoyment in activities & programmes which they freely participate in. We offer social enterprise opportunities & initiatives for young people needing employment supports and skills training which are beneficial for the individuals, our organisation and the wider community. Much of our work is focused on providing positive experiences and opportunities to vulnerable, unattached, disadvantaged youth and young adults with physical and sensory disabilities. We are a not-for profit organisation, fully audited Company Limited by Guarantee limited with recognised charitable status. We comply with the Governance Code being a voluntary code for the community, voluntary and charitable sector. This was the culmination of almost a two-year process ensuring that we are even more prepared to meet the ever increasing governance and compliance requirements that are so necessary for the sector to move forward and, most importantly, in maintaining public trust. Furthermore, it is our belief that we are the first SPY Project (Special Youth Project) in the southeast to be fully compliant with the Governance Code and one of only nine compliant groups overall in Waterford City & County. Our organisation is part funded through grants from the Dept. for Children& Youth Affairs (D.C.Y.A), the Dept. of Social Protection and other smaller agencies. However, almost 50% of our funding is secured through fundraising, donations and sponsorship. Childrens Group Link operates at the heart of the broader community within Waterford City. Our key slogan is ‘Working in the Community for the Community’. We engage in a range of activities with our members which enhance the overall image of our City and encourage civic pride within the community. Our organisation actively collaborates on programmes with local schools, other organisations and Waterford City & County Council. We participate in a range of environmental projects each year and promote the well-being and care of senior citizens & minority groups through organised events for them. Our premises which is wholly owned by the organisation offers rented rooms, facilities and services to residents’ groups, not for profit organisations, schools and support agencies.
