Mission Statement
Our Missions is provide optimal surgical, anaesthetic, medical and nursing care to infants and children of low- and middle-income countries.
About This Cause
Operation Childlife (OCL) originated from a response to a request from the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF) in 2004, to upskill and mentor paediatric doctors and nurses in Children’s Hospital Number 2, Ho Chi Minh City, and to carry out a number of complex surgeries. To date, OCL has expanded to Tanzania, Mongolia and Jordan. The medical volunteers consist of surgical, medical, anaesthesia, ICU, interventional radiology, oncology and nursing specialists from Ireland and abroad. The teams perform complex lifesaving cardiac and surgical procedures not otherwise available to these children. Treatments for complex congenital heart abnormality surgery, congenital bowel, lung, and liver anomalies, and oncology procedures are performed, to mention just a few. Each year the team works seemlessly with local healthcare teams to build and leave a legacy of medical care, education, training and equipment to help build a self sufficient network in the partner institutions. During 2024 Operation Childlife completed six clinical missions and delivered two formal training programmes across our five children’s hospital partners in Tanzania, Jordan, Mongolia and Vietnam, the latter two in partnership with the Christina Noble Charitable Foundation (CNCF). For more information on our missions please see our website www.operationchildlife.com/news. An integral part of Operation Childlife's work is the training of local medical personnel, so the impact of our work goes far beyond the individual cases we treat. On all of our clinical missions training is provided in clinical settings and/or in more formal classroom/workshop formats. We have also adopted the Paediatric Acute Surgical Support (PASS) training programme, which an accredited faculty of Operation Childlife volunteers now deliver on stand-alone visits to our partner hospitals. The PASS programme aims to save the lives of acutely ill children by enhancing the initial assessment, recognition, and early appropriate management of a life-threatening surgical emergency. We would be enormously grateful if you might consider becoming part of the Operation Childlife Team. Your valuable funding would assist in treating and improving the lives of children in these developing countries, and also help to build self-sufficient sustainable health partnerships that improve the lives of children of future generations to come. We thank you for taking the time to consider our charity. We are happy to answer any queries that may arise and of course meet with you should you wish to further discuss any potential support. Thank you
