About This Cause
St Vincent’s Infant Boys’ School is a small disadvantaged school in the heart of Dublin’s inner city. The school is located on the bank of the Royal Canal. There are 87 children across Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class. Of the 87 children, over 70% of our children have additional needs and over 40% of our children are homeless and living in temporary accommodation. A number of children are living in homes where there are many challenges; ie homelessness, low income, hunger, substance abuse, mental illness. The children regularly come to school with many unmet basic needs. Children who are hungry, cold or upset cannot learn. The school is a safe haven for many of our children. We work hard to listen to families and to create a learning environment that best meets their needs with; a sense of belonging, care, routine, safety, fun and excitement. The children are offered a breakfast every morning and by providing a dinner in school, the children are guaranteed at least one hot meal a day. We see children thrive when they return to classrooms ready to learn and engage with stimulating learning experiences offered for them. With your help we can continue to offer hope to these children and their families. We can ensure there is a hamper of food and basic necessities in every home this Christmas. We can ensure every child receives a special gift. These supports offered through the school build a strong bond between marginalised families and the school and ensure ‘from the death of each day’s hope, another hope springs up to live tomorrow’.
