Mission Statement
St. Martin de Porres N.S is a Catholic Primary School under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin. It is a caring learning environment where children of all race and religion are cherished and encouraged to reach their full potential. Our school seeks to involve and ensure that all members of the school community work in partnership to ensure the full development of each child in our care. Together we will strive to provide an education that reflects Ireland in the 21st century by supporting the academic, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children using a child centred holistic approach.
About This Cause
St. Martin de Porres National School was built in 1978 and is situated at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. The school has played a vital role in the education of the children of Aylesbury and the wider community for close to 50 years. We are a mainstream primary school of 396 pupils, with two of every stream from Junior Infants to 6th class and two classes for children with Autism. We have an extremely hard working and dedicated staff of 28 teachers, including the Principal, and 15 Special Needs Assistants who are committed to, not only the education of the children, but also the nurturing and holistic development of the boys and girls in their care. We teach a wide range of subjects including Maths, English, Gaeilge (Irish Language), SESE (History, Geography, Science), The Arts (Music, Art, Drama), Physical Education and SPHE (Social, Personal and Health Education). We have a beautiful school garden which the pupils and school's Garden Committee maintain and we often use this space as an outdoor classroom/learning environment where children can relax and reconnect with nature. The pupils in our school enjoy playing our national sports of Gaelic Football and Hurling and have also competed in many basketball and athletic tournaments. We also run a number of after school clubs including Science Club, Art Club and Sports Club, which our children very much enjoy. We have a very active Parents' Association, who do wonderful work fundraising for our school throughout the school year and making the parents of our pupils feel an important part of our school community. Our building is quite old and requires a lot of maintenance and upgrading from year to year. Grant funding from the Department of Education is minimal and often not enough to enable us to make necessary repairs to the infrastructure of the school. We rely heavily on the fundraising efforts of our Parents' Association as well as the generous donations of outside agencies to ensure we maintain a warm, welcoming and safe school building.
