Mission Statement
Galway Bay Sailing Club promotes and encourages the sport of sailing among all ages, genders and backgrounds in the County Galway area. We focus on providing facilities to enable sailors from beginner to advanced level to learn and participate in a range of seagoing activities from individual sailing to competitive racing. We offer training to children and adults and provide subsequent pathways to develop their abilities according to their interests. We also work with other groups in encouraging and maintaining a maritime tradition particularly in the Galway area.
About This Cause
Galway Bay Sailing Club is a not-for-profit, volunteer-managed sailing and training centre based in Renville on the inner end of Galway Bay in Ireland. Our aim is to promote sailing in the County Galway area, and we work with other groups to promote maritime awareness and water safety in the community. The club has been active since 1970 and has developed over the years with the support of the local community, business and local and government authorities. We have a fully accessible clubhouse, with ground floor male and female changing rooms and shower facilities. We run weekly organised racing for keelboats and dinghies at adult level, while we run junior sailing for younger members as well as summer camps open to children from the general community. We have an active Sailability group that organises weekly sailing for the disabled in specially adapted boats throughout the season. We also host competitive regatta events at regional and national level, as well as social and leisure events throughout the year. We are Sailing Ireland accredited (national oversight body) and run training courses from beginner to advanced level. We welcome new members from beginner to experienced level nomatter what age or gender. Our fleets of keelboats and dinghys are frequently willing to take on new crew, and joining as a member offers the chance to get sailing on boats in the fleet, pick up on-the-water experience and get involved in our local boating community. The club as a not for profit sports body is registered as tax exempt under the Irish Revenue Tax Authority's Sports Bodies Tax Exemption.
