Mission Statement
Reducing the scope of the phenomenon The Israeli Protection Center was established in view of providing a wide array of intervention services nationwide for victims of sexual assault. The Center is the first such organization in Israel to offer a broad spectrum of assistance under one roof. The Center will offer victims and their families comprehensive therapy programs, with a commitment to involve professionals as long as the rehabilitation process requires. At the same time, the Center will promote governmental programs for the prevention and reduction of sexual assault by means of an interministerial committee. The programs will focus on increasing exposure to reports to law enforcement agencies, preventing and identifying sexual assault as well as running ‘immunity’ programs. The Center’s activities will aspire to uncompromising professionalism and will be based on scientific research in view of constantly improving effectiveness. The Center will thereby provide assistance to the entire Israeli society of all ages, including adapted assistance for specific populations. The Israeli Protection Center will operate in a true mission and strong belief that its goal-oriented activity will bring about significant change by decreasing the magnitude of sexual violence, while increasing the sense of security in children, youth, women, men and their families.
About This Cause
The Israeli Protection Center – Range of Activities and Assistance: The Israeli Protection Center is a charity that houses nationwide intervention services to assist victims of sexual assault and their families. The Center’s objective is to offer the victim/s and their families a wide array of services under one roof in view of reducing the scope of the phenomenon. Assisting the victims The Center runs a 24/7 hotline for every call. During the Intake held by the Center’s professional team, victims are informed about their rights in the different required fields – legal and medical status, therapeutic options, civil lawsuits and community assistance. Family assistance: The Center operates a special assistance service to cater for the needs of the family unit, offering therapy of up to 10 sessions free of charge. SELAH volunteers (Crime Victim Support Services) will accompany the family according to an intervention program until completion of the process. Community assistance The Center considers the community to be a meaningful factor that can contribute to reduce the extent of the assaults and to support the victims. To empower the community, the Center operates a volunteering network of “protection trustees” – volunteers from the community who address local authorities on behalf of the victims, acting as agents of change and mediators between the establishment and the community. Preventive measures: The Center operates various prevention and treatment programs and works towards the establishment of the following national programs: Short term: Immunity workshops for youth and children in schools Protection programs and workshops geared at parents and school staff to identify first signs of sexual assault. Long term: Promoting legislation that requires all teaching staff to be trained in identifying first signs of sexual assault as part of the requirements for obtaining the teaching license. Assisting culturally specific populations: The Center attributes great importance to assist local authorities (police/prosecution/social services) in adapting support for culturally specific communities. To this end, the Center collaborates with law enforcement authorities and institutions dealing with cultural specificity to impart knowledge and tools and to establish mediation meetings that involve community opinion leaders. Legal advice: The Center offers legal advice free of charge for damage claims. Scientific research: The Center promotes academic collaboration to carry out targeted studies related to core issues that have not yet received sufficient attention by research (populations with special characteristics, extent of the phenomenon, meaning of the injury for the family unit etc’). Treating offenders: Treating the circle of offenders constitutes an important aspect of preventing recurring assaults. Besides counseling for the offenders’ families, the Center also promotes legislation that ensures rehabilitative processes as well as punitive measures. Real change can be achieved and the extent of sexual assaults occurring in Israel can be reduced. The foundation of a healthy way of life consists in raising the sense of security in children, youth, women, men and their families within society. Together we will make this vision a reality.
