Mission Statement
The Association for Urban Farming operates with a multi-dimensional vision to transform urban spaces into sources of strength and sustainability, making urban agriculture a driving force for social, environmental, and economic change in Israel. Its core belief is that cultivating land in the city can cultivate people and communities. We achieve this by establishing urban farms and gardens that leverage the latest innovations in hydroponics.
About This Cause
The Association for Urban Agriculture, founded in 2017, is an Israeli non-profit organization at the forefront of a revolution in urban sustainability and well-being. Dedicated to cultivating personal and community resilience, we transform urban areas into self-sustaining food systems. We recognize the vital importance of highly nutritious, locally grown produce that is accessible to all, especially in marginalized communities suffering from food insecurity and residing in food deserts. Through a scalable and replicable model, we significantly increase local food production and consumption in urban environments. Our multifaceted approach includes establishing and managing advanced urban farming infrastructure across 48 centers in 26 localities, providing comprehensive training to children, city dwellers, local activists, and businesses through tailored workshops, and relentlessly researching and developing innovative agricultural solutions. We actively advise on policy and raise public knowledge and awareness to foster a stable nutrition infrastructure and reduce reliance on processed and imported foods. Beyond addressing the food crisis, we leverage the profound healing power of urban agriculture. Recognizing the immense national mental health challenge, particularly following the events of October 7th and the subsequent wars, we established our Growing Project. This initiative establishes a national network of "Resilience Containers"—urban therapeutic farms—offering a holistic approach that integrates therapeutic agriculture, psychological treatment, occupational therapy, and vital social and community support. We are committed to empowering individuals, including survivors, veterans, evacuees, and bereaved families, to heal from trauma and find renewed purpose. Guided by a multi-disciplinary professional forum and committed to training hundreds of specialized therapists, the Association for Urban Agriculture is a driving force for personal empowerment, social-community growth, and environmental protection, ensuring a healthier, more resilient future for all of Israeli society..
