Mission Statement
Branco Weiss is an educational organization working to generate social change so as to allow for the personal and social growth of students and teachers as well as to reduce the direct link between the difficult life circumstances affecting young people in Israel's geographical and social periphery and their ability to fulfill their potential and make a contribution to the progress of a thriving Israeli society Established in 1990 by Dr. Branco Weiss, a Swiss Jewish philanthropist (1929–2010), together with the ministry of education, Branco Weiss is a nonprofit organization that for the past 30 years has been playing a vital role in the education of youth at risk and in the field of education as a whole. Since 1998, about 6200 at-risk students graduated the Branco Weiss schools with a high-school diploma, better tools for a productive and meaningful living, and most importantly – a belief in themselves and in their abilities. ברנקו וייס הוקם בשנת 1990 על ידי ד"ר ברנקו וייס (1929-2010) בשיתוף משרד החינוך, והינו ארגון ללא מטרות רווח שב-30 השנים האחרונות משחק תפקיד משמעותי ומוביל בעיצוב השדה החינוכי-פדגוגי בישראל ככלל ובתחום חינוך בני הנוער בסיכון בפרט. אנו פועלים למען שינוי חברתי, במטרה לאפשר צמיחה אישית וחברתית של תלמידים ומורים ולצמצם את הקשר הישיר בין נסיבות חיים המקשות על צעירים בפריפריה הגיאוגרפית והחברתית של מדינת ישראל לבין יכולתם לממש את עצמם ואת יכולתם ולתרום את חלקם לקידומה של חברה ישראלית משגשגת.
About This Cause
A few of Branco Weiss core areas are: SCHOOL NETWORK FOR YOUTH AT RISK Every year about 26,000 students drop out of the educational system for which Israeli society pays a substantial financial and social cost. The students feel 'type B' citizens and are excluded from the Israeli society. Branco Weiss 14 schools for youth at risk provide the teenagers with the opportunity to finish 12 school years, better tools for fruitful and meaningful lives and most importantly a belief in themselves and in their ability to succeed. 57.5% of the Branco Weiss students are eligible for matriculation diploma in the 2019-2020 school year, compared to 30% in alike schools. THE HYBRID SCHOOL MODEL Branco Weiss is creating an innovative learning system platform, suitable for the 21st century, allowing each and every student to fulfill their potential in a variety of fields. The students develop independent learner skills, so the the teacher's function is changed. The program includes teacher trainings, creating a new and relevant teaching experience, developing the ability to quickly transition from in-school learning to remote learning, Increasing the offerings of different fields of learning and different styles of learning suitable to students from different regions / local governments / schools (in Israel and around the world) and bringing the periphery to the center, increasing the range of opportunities for students in small/remote locations. 'KFAR BASHCHUNA' - THE HOLISTIC MODEL FOR AT-RISK ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS A child at risk grows up to be an adolescent at risk. A child living in poverty and/or in an environment of risk is trapped in a perpetual cycle, and is likely to grow up to become an adult living in poverty and at risk. At present, there are 200,000 youths aged 18 to 25 in Israel who are at risk. The negative power of the cycle creates a reality that makes it difficult for them to succeed in adulthood: Poverty and situations of risk harm their sense of security and safety, physical health, emotional wellbeing, and chances of learning and developing. The children are marginalized socially and geographically and do not have sufficient opportunities to discover and develop their talents and capabilities. Consequently, their ability to envision a brighter future suffers. The solutions provided to at-risk adolescents are insufficiently effective, partly because there is no entity integrating them. Branco Weiss schools have specialized in empowering and education at-risk youth. Therefore, we are currently developing an optimal school model for children at risk that places great emphasis on a lateral, around-the-clock setting connecting formal and informal education during the high school years, and incorporates longitudinal support between the ages of 15 and 25. ברנקו וייס פעיל במגוון מישורים בתחום החינוך, להלן שלושה אפיקים מרכזיים: רשת בתי הספר האתגריים בכל שנה, כ-26,000 תלמידים נושרים ממערכת החינוך. החברה הישראלית משלמת מחיר כבד בעקבות התופעה, מחירים חברתיים כמו גם כלכליים בתחומי הרווחה ואכיפת החוק, וכך גם התלמידים עצמם, המרגישים כאזרחים סוג ב', ומודרים מהחברה הישראלית. 14 בתי הספר האתגריים של ברנקו וייס מעניקים לבני הנוער בסיכון הזדמנות לסיים 12 שנות לימוד, לקבל כלים טובים יותר לניהול חיים פוריים ובעלי משמעות וחשוב מכל – לחזק את האמונה בעצמם ובכישוריהם לחיים. בבתי הספר של ברנקו וייס 57.5% מהבוגרים של שנת הלימודים האחרונה (תש"פ) זכאים לתעודת בגרות לעומת 30% מהבוגרים בבתי הספר הדומים. בית הספר ההיברידי ברנקו וייס מקימים בימים אלה ממשק למערכת חדשנית מבוססת למידה, הרלוונטית למציאות ולעולם האמיתי ומאפשרת לכל תלמיד ותלמידה הזדמנות למימוש עצמי. התלמידים מפתחים מיומנויות של לומדים עצמאיים ותפקיד המורה משתנה. התכנית כוללת ליווי והכשרת המורים והמורות ליצירת חוויית הוראה ולמידה חדשנית ורלוונטית, פיתוח יכולת למעבר מהיר ממצב של למידה בבתי הספר ללמידה מרחוק, הגדלת ההיצע של תחומי הלמידה השונים וסגנונות הלמידה לתלמידים מאזורים / רשויות / בתי ספר שונים (בארץ ובעולם) ובזכותה יתרחש קֵרוב של הפריפריה למרכז, והגדלת מגוון האפשרויות לתלמידים ביישובים קטנים ומרוחקים. כפר בשכונה נער בסיכון גדל להיות צעיר בסיכון. בישראל חיים כיום כ-200,000 צעירים בגילאי 18-25 המוגדרים צעירים בסיכון. מציאות החיים של הצעירים מקשה על יכולתם להצליח בעתיד – הנערים חווים בעיות ומחסור, מה שפוגע בביטחון ובתחושת המוגנות, בבריאות הפיזית והרגשית, ובאפשרות ללמוד ולהתפתח. הנערים נמצאים בשולי החברה ואינם זוכים להזדמנויות כדי לגלות ולפתח את כישוריהם ולגבש תמונת עתיד. המענים שניתנים לנערים אינם יעילים מספיק, בין היתר לאור העובדה שאינם מתוכללים. בתי הספר של ברנקו וייס מתמחים בחינוך ובהעצמת נוער בסיכון, כאשר בית הספר הוא מנוף משמעותי להצלחת נער\ה בסיכון. מתוך ההיכרות המעמיקה עם תחום נוער בסיכון, פותח במכון ברנקו וייס מודל בית הספר המיטבי לנוער במצבי סיכון השם חשיבות רבה למעטפת רוחבית (24/7) המחברת את החינוך הפורמלי והבלתי פורמלי בשנות התיכון ומשלבת מעטפת לליווי אורכי (15-25) שהוא מערך הבוגרים.
